PFC
Power factor correction (PFC) is a technique used
in electrical systems to improve the power factor
of an AC power supply. The power factor is a
measure of how effectively electrical power is
being utilized by a device or system. It represents
the ratio of real power (measured in watts) to
apparent power (measured in volt-amperes).

Voltage Testing – 1.3 Supply voltage VCC – PWM IC
VCC - PIN
Identify the VCC Pin of the PWM / Power IC: Look
at the datasheet or pinout diagram of the specific
PWM power IC you are using. The VCC pin is
usually marked clearly in the documentation.

Check nearby components For PS5 it is +18V.

VCC is needed to power the PWM / Power IC on to

generate the voltages.

Check VCC +18V Correct voltage is present. We can assume now

the filter capacitor; startup resistor and bridge
rectifier are ok.

0V - and main filter capacitor has the

correct voltage then the startup resistor
could be shorted pulling the VCC down
to 0V.

Voltage lower then aspected and main

filter capacitor has the correct voltage
then the resistance of startup resistor
could be high ohm. Or components
nearby are leaky or faulty
