DEFINING CONCEPTS

WHAT IS TEACHING?
“Teaching is the process of attending to people’s needs, experiences
and feelings, and intervening so that they learn particular things, and
go beyond the given.”

WHO IS A TEACHER?
“an expert who is capable of imparting knowledge that will help learners to build,
identify and to acquire skills that will be used to face the challenges in life. The
teacher also provides to the learners knowledge, skills and values that enhance
development.” (Senge 2000:26)

ROLES
A teacher has the job of managing the
activities and the students in the
classroom in different ways while a lesson
is in progress. Therefore, he/she must act
in various ways at different stages of the
lesson. These different kinds of behavior
are known as ‘teacher’s roles’
