UNIT 12: THIS IS MY HOUSE

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:


1. Knowledge:
- Identify and learn words and phrases related to the topic “my house”.
2. Skills:
- Listen to and demonstrate understanding of simple communicative contexts in
relation to the topic “my house”;
- Talk about the rooms in the house, using “ There's a ...... ", "It's very nice!".
3. Competencies:
- Perform individual tasks and solve a problem by themselves.
- Demonstrate teamwork skills such as cooperation and turn-taking.
4. Attributes:
- Learn to concentrate on the lesson, listen carefully, and express ideas during the
lesson.
- Be confident in communicating with friends and others.

II. LANGUAGE FOCUS:

- Vocabulary: living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, dining room, garden

- Sentence patterns: “ There's a ...... ", "It's very nice!".

III. RESOURCES:

Student’s books, recording, pictures, flashcards, computer, Powerpoint.

IV. PROCEDURE: Warm-up and review – Look, listen and repeat – Point and
say – Let’s talk and wrap up.

Activity 1: Warm-up: 5 minutes Whole class

*Aim: To get pupils ready for the lesson and link to the lesson.
Pupils will listen to a song named “my house” and T will ask pupils
to guess the topic of the lesson today.

1. PRESENTATION- Activity 2: Look, listen and repeat: 10


minutes

*Aim: To present new words and sentence patterns and help


students be familiarized with the expressions of asking and
answering about rooms in a house.

Transition: “We just heard a house song, right?


Do you like this song? Now let's start the new
lesson by listening to the dialogues. ”
+ Steps (of carrying out the activity):
Teacher will:
- Set the scene: (Using pictures and dialogue in Whole class
Student’s Book). Tell students that they are going
to listen to the dialogue in which the characters
talk about the rooms.
- Give students a few seconds to look at the two Individual
pictures to identify the characters (Linda and
Mai) and read the dialogue in which the language
is used.
- Ask them to guess the topic of the dialogue. -
Elicit the situation in each picture/ dialogue by
asking a few questions to check comprehension:
Where are they? What are they doing? What
are they talking about ?
(Picture a Mai and Linda are standing in front of
Mai's house, Mai introduces Linda to "This is my
house." In picture b, Mai introduces Linda to her
garden "There's a garden over there.
Come and see it.", Linda said, "It's very nice!".)
- Have the class look at all the dialogue and play Whole class
the recording for the pupils to listen to all the Individual
way through once or twice.
- Have students listen and repeat each line of the
dialogue, pointing to the characters speaking, in
chorus once or twice.
- Conduct a repetition drill to have students
practice the dialogues through
+ Models by T and the whole class:
I will be Mai and all of you will be Linda, okay? Pairwork
+ Open pairs: T - one pupil; one pupil - one
pupil
“Now, who can role-play with me? Nga, please.”
“And now, Thao is Mai and Huong is Linda.
Read the dialogue, please.”
+ Closed pairs: two pupils in the same table take
turns to read the dialogue.
“Please, work in pairs and read the dialogue. One
is Linda and the other is Mai” Whole class
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases a
few times to reinforce their pronunciation.

ACTIVITY 3: Pre-teach Vocabulary
- Elicit by asking the pupils to look at the pictures
then ask pupils to guess “where is this”
Living room: phòng khách
Kitchen: phòng bếp
Bathroom: phòng tắm
Bedroom: phòng ngủ
Dining room: phòng ăn
Garden: khu vườn
- Practice pronunciation. Ask for Vietnamese
meaning.
- Ask the pupils to copy down the words in their
notebooks.
Check Vocabulary

Aim: to check pupils’ understanding and/or


ability to use the newly learned words

Introduce the game: Rub out and Remember

Steps of conducting the game:

- Explain how to play the game clearly.

- Ask the students to look at the word written

them.

- Start the game by rubbing out some letters at


the beginning/at the middle/at the end of the
words gradually or the entire words, and ask
pupils to rewrite the missing subjects.

- Check the answer.

PRACTICE - Activity 4: Point and say: 8 minutes

*Aim: to help students practice the model sentence about rooms in


the house

- Show the sentence patterns:

Boy: “There’s a …”

Girl: “It’s very nice”

- The class practice the model sentence with the


teacher Whole class

Transition: “Now I will be the girl, you’re the


boy. You say “There’s a …” and I say “It’s very
nice”

+ Change pictures for students to practice the


model sentence and vocabulary

- Ask pupils to work in group and individual

+ Divide the class into two groups, then play out


the characters and exchange roles.

+ Invite 2 students to play out the role.

PRODUCTION - Activity 5: Let’s talk: 5 minutes

*Aim: Request that the students practice saying the instructions and
vocabulary more politely.
Transition: “ The whole class, look at the
picture. This is Nam’s house. Is it beautiful? Now
you will work in pairs, describing Nam’s house.”

- Invite 2 pairs to speak

Activity 5: Wrap up: 5 minutes

*Aim: To get pupils to remember the target vocabulary and


structures.

GAME: “Hot Seat”


- Divide students into 2 teams, each team invites
3 students to go on the board.
- Teacher pastes the picture to be guessed on the Whole class
board, and students sitting below give
suggestions to help the students above guess.
The student above, having come up with an
answer, went back to get flashcards and
shouted the answer: "There is a ..."
- That team that is faster than that team will be
the winner.
