• Write the answer of the following questions. [Each carries 2 Marks] [52]
22. The gases are very compressible - Explain this with example.
30. Convert the following temperatures to the Kelvin scale. (a) 25 °C (b) 373 °C
31. ) Give reason for the following observation : We can get the smell of perfume sitting several metres
away.
32. Arrange the following substances in increasing order of forces of attraction between the particles -
water, sugar, oxygen.
33. ) Give reasons for the following observation : The smell of hot sizzling food reaches you several metres
away, but to get the smell from cold food you have to go close.
34. ) Liquids generally have a lower density as compared to solids. But you must have observed that ice
floats on water. Find out why.
35. ) Why does a desert cooler cool better on a hot dry day ?
36. ) How does the water kept in an earthen pot (matka) become cool during summer ?
37. ) Why does our palm feel cold when we put some acetone or petrol or perfume on it ?
38. What are physical & chemical changes ? Explain with example.
41. A solution contains 40 g of common salt in 320 g of water. Calculate the concentration in terms of
mass by mass percentage of the solution.
42. Write the steps you would use for making tea. Use the words solution, solvent, solute, dissolve, soluble,
insoluble, filtrate and residue.
43. ) Pragya tested the solubility of three different substances at different temperatures and collected the
data as given below (results are given in the following table, as grams of substance dissolved in 100
grams of water to form a saturated solution).
Temperature in K
Substance Dissolved
283 293 313 333 353
Potassium nitrate 21 32 62 106 167
Sodium chloride 36 36 36 37 37
Potassium chloride 35 35 40 46 54
Ammonium chloride 24 37 41 55 66
What mass of potassium nitrate would be needed to produce a saturated solution of potassium
nitrate in 50 grams of water at 313 K ?
44. ) Pragya tested the solubility of three different substances at different temperatures and collected the
data as given below (results are given in the following table, as grams of substance dissolved in 100
grams of water to form a saturated solution).
Temperature in K

Sodium chloride 36 36 36 37 37
Potassium chloride 35 35 40 46 54
Ammonium chloride 24 37 41 55 66
Pragya makes a saturated solution of potassium chloride in water at 353 K and leaves the
solution to cool at room temperature. What would she observe as the solution cools ? Explain.

59. ) Play this game in the field - make four groups and form human chains as suggested :
• The first group should hold each other from the back and lock arms like Bihu dancers see figure.
60. 1) Take three 100 mL syringes and close their nozzles by rubber corks, as shown in Fig.

Rubber cork
• Remove the pistons from all the syringes.
• Leaving one syringe untouched, fill water in the second and pieces of chalk in the third.
• Insert the pistons back into the syringes. You may apply some vaseline on the pistons before
inserting them into the syringes for their smooth movement.
• Now, try to compress the content by pushing the piston in each syringe.
• What do you observe ? In which case was the piston easily pushed in ?
• What do you infer from your observations ?
