Question 4) (L.O.1.12):
A shaft in a speed reducer is supported by two deep groove ball bearing (1) as shown in Figure 3. The
reducer body (2) is fixed to the ground. Two bearing caps (3) are used to support the bearings along the
axial direction. Each bearing cap is assembled to be reducer body by a group of four bolts.

Figure 3

The forces act on the bearings are radial forces Fr1 = Fr2 = 6000 N and axial force Fa = 1400 N along
the shaft axis as shown in Figure 3. The bearings operate in normal conditions (Kσ = Kt = 1).
Select the most suitable bearing type from the following table. (1,0 mark)

Bearing code 112 212 312 412

Dynamic load rating C (kN) 24,1 41,1 64,1 85,6
Static load rating C0 (kN) 18,5 31,5 49,4 71,4
b. Some parameters of the bolt joint are given as: safety factor k = 1,5; external load factor χ = 0,3; the
allowable tensile stress of bolt is 40 MPa. All bolts are tightened to locate the bearings before
operating. Select proper bolt type for the bearing cap. (1,0 mark)
