this Field Work Practice (PKL) report in accordance with the set deadline. We

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Latar Belakang

Banyualit Spa 'n Resort Lovina has the charm of a charming family-owned resort
with a large outdoor swimming pool set amidst tropical gardens. Located in
Kalibukbuk Village in Lovina, North Bali, the resort also offers pampering spa
services and a seafood restaurant. Cottage-style rooms are air-conditioned or fan-
cooled, and equipped with satellite TV. The private bathroom comes with a
hot/cold shower. Just steps away from Banyualit Beach where guests can see
dolphins playing, the resort is a 10-minute drive from Lovina town center.
Banyualit Spa 'n Resort Lovina is 42 miles from Ngurah Rai International Airport,
via a scenic travel route through the mountainous Bedugul area. Free parking is
available. The resort's spa has a private area for couples, a hot tub and foot
massages. Staff at the tour desk can help arrange dolphin-watching excursions,
walking tours of Singaraja city, and relaxing trips to nearby hot springs The
restaurant serves a variety of local and Western dishes, with a special emphasis on
fresh seafood.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE HOTEL

2.1 Definition Of A Hotel

Establishments such as hotels, houses, inns, and taverns cater to the needs of
travelers and others seeking lodging or entertainment. The term "hotel" is
commonly used to describe a spacious establishment equipped with modern
amenities, although this isn't always the case. For instance, one might refer to both
the finest hotel in the city or a budget-friendly option near the docks as "hotels."
The term "house" often appears in the names of upscale hotels, suggesting
opulence and luxury, as seen in examples like the Parker House or the Palmer
House. "Inn," on the other hand, evokes a sense of cozy comfort and traditional
charm, often associated with older appearances or customs. This term is employed
for nostalgic or historical effect in the names of various public houses and hotels
across the United States, such as the Pickwick Inn or the Wayside Inn. A "tavern,"
akin to the British public house, is an establishment where alcoholic beverages are
served for on-site consumption. While previously considered outdated or regional
in American usage, it has experienced a resurgence to replace terms like "saloon,"
which carried negative connotations. Taverns, like saloons, historically had a
curfew, such as closing by two o'clock in the morning. Additionally, in New
England, the term "tavern" has been used interchangeably with "inn" since
colonial times, exemplified by establishments like Wiggins Tavern.
The term "hotel" is commonly understood to describe a sizable establishment
designed to provide lodging, amenities, and various services to travelers in
exchange for a fee. Typically, the term carries connotations of formality and
professionalism, reflecting the standardized services, facilities, and room
arrangements commonly found within such establishments. In contrast, a
"homestay" represents a more intimate lodging arrangement wherein guests reside
within the home of a local host. This type of accommodation offers a distinctly
personal and immersive experience, facilitating interactions with the host family
and providing firsthand exposure to local customs and culture.
Generally, homestays offer a more limited array of amenities and services
compared to hotels, focusing instead on fostering connections between guests and

the community. The differentiation between hotels and homestays extends beyond
mere size and structure, encompassing the overall ambiance and atmosphere each
type of accommodation offers. Hotels, as larger and commercially driven
enterprises, typically cater to a diverse clientele and prioritize efficiency and
convenience. Conversely, homestays prioritize authenticity and local immersion,
providing guests with a unique opportunity to engage with their surroundings on a
deeper level within a residential setting.
Hotels are commercial establishments that provide temporary accommodation,
typically for travelers, tourists, or individuals seeking lodging for a certain period
of time. They come in various types, catering to different needs, preferences, and
budgets of guests. Here are some common types of hotels:

1. Full-Service Hotels: These hotels offer a wide range of amenities and


services, including restaurants, bars, room service, concierge assistance,
fitness centers, swimming pools, business centers, and conference facilities.

The organizational structure in a hotel has several functions that are very
important for the smooth operation and achievement of business goals. Here are
some of the main functions of the hotel's organizational structure:
1. Organization and Coordination: The organizational structure of a hotel helps
in the organization and coordination of various departments and business units
within the hotel. It ensures that each section has clear and well-organized
responsibilities, thus minimizing chaos and increasing efficiency.
2. Assignment of Authority and Responsibility: With a clear organizational

2.5 Relationship between each department in the hotel Banyualit Spa ‘N


Resort Lovina

Hotel is a building that is managed commercially and intended for the public,
providing rooms for guests to stay, and equipped with other facilities needed to
get services and eat and drink. Within the hotel, there are several departments that
have an important role in maintaining the comfort and safety of guests and the
smooth operation of the hotel as a whole.
1. Front Office Department
The Front Office Department is a department that directly deals with guests. Its
duties include receiving room reservations, registering guests who come, and
providing information needed by guests. This department is the first impression
for guests when they arrive at the hotel and want to do the check-in process.
2. Housekeeping Department
The Housekeeping Department is responsible for the cleanliness, tidiness, and
cleaning of the guest rooms, public spaces, lobby, and all areas of the hotel.
They ensure that all rooms are clean and comfortable for guests.
3. Food & Beverage Department
The Food and Beverage Department takes care of all food and beverage service
needs for hotel guests. They are also responsible for the provision and
presentation of food and beverages in accordance with hotel standards.
4. Personnel/HRD Department
The Personnel Department is in charge of hiring, placing, and managing hotel
employees and trainees. They also handle all issues faced by employees in the
course of their duties.
5. Security Department
The Security Department is responsible for order and security throughout the
hotel. They ensure that guests, employees, and hotel assets are well protected
from any threats or disturbances.
Relationship Between Hotel Departments :

1. The relationship between Housekeeping and Front Office is crucial in


maintaining the quality of service to guests. For example, the room status
report submitted by Housekeeping to the Front Office helps in arranging room
reservations for guests who will check in. In addition, reports of lost hotel
items brought by guests and the discovery of guest belongings left in the room
are also information that needs to be conveyed to the Front Office for follow-
up to the guests concerned. Vice versa, when the Front Office provides
information to Housekeeping regarding guests who will soon enter / check in,
Housekeeping can prepare rooms according to the needs of these guests.
2. The relationship between Housekeeping and Food & Beverage is also very
closely related to service to guests. One example is through room service,
where Housekeeping is responsible for preparing the food and beverage menu
ordered by guests who want to enjoy a meal in their room.
3. Housekeeping's relationship with the Personnel/HRD department occurs in
various aspects of human resource management. Starting from labor
procurement, hiring new employees, to training employees to improve their
skills in carrying out cleaning and room maintenance tasks. In addition, in
terms of termination of employment, employee leave, and warning letters for
employees, Housekeeping needs to coordinate with Personnel / HRD to carry
out procedures in accordance with company policy.
4. The relationship between Housekeeping and Security is mainly concerned
with security surveillance in areas related to Housekeeping, such as corridors,
room boy duty stations, and the Housekeeping office itself. This aims to ensure
the security and safety of Housekeeping employees as well as maintaining the
security of hotel goods that are in their responsibility.

IMPLEMENTATION

3.1 Implementation of Activities

Schedule of On-The-Job Training at Banyualit Hotel Spa & Resort entails 5


working hours for trainees, divided into distinct shifts:
1. Morning Shift (07:00 - 12:00 PM):
During the morning shift, trainees in the Housekeeping department engage in
preparing cleaning equipment and materials before commencing their
activities. This shift also involves the prior cleaning of the front office from the
previous morning shift. Subsequently, trainees proceed to guest rooms to
perform various tasks, such as making beds, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping,
mopping, and other related duties.
2. Middle Shift (12:00 - 17:00 PM):
Trainees in the middle shift begin by preparing the necessary tools and
equipment for their tasks. Upon reporting to their supervisor or senior, they
proceed to clean guest rooms, following instructions provided by the senior
staff. Tasks during this shift include making beds, cleaning bathrooms,
mopping, sweeping, and other assigned duties, working closely with
experienced team members.
3. Evening Shift / Closing (16:00 - 21:00 PM):
During the evening shift, trainees prepare cleaning equipment for room
cleaning. As the clock strikes 17:00, they transition to cleaning public areas,
including a final cleaning session of the front office before its closure. After
completing tasks in the front office, trainees may assist in the restaurant,
ensuring a comprehensive understanding of various operational aspects within
the hotel environment. Through these meticulously structured shifts, trainees
gain practical experience and exposure to the operational intricacies of the
hospitality industry, under the guidance of seasoned professionals at Banyualit
Hotel Spa & Resort.

3.2 Obstacles Encountered During Training

The following is a sentence development about some of the difficulties


experienced during the training at Banyualit Hotel Spa & Resort:

1. Adapting to seniors or other staff was a little difficult because the work
atmosphere still felt unfamiliar when I first started my job.
2. Feeling anxious and worried when having to serve visiting guests, especially
due to lack of experience in such situations.
3. Facing challenges when doing work that was not previously considered
tiring, but became difficult due to lack of experience in the field.
4. After a month, became bored due to the daily repetitive routine of the job
without significant variation.
5. Constraints related to limited uniforms made it difficult for trainees to
always wear clean and fragrant clothes, which affected the impression of
professionalism when serving guests.

3.3 Success During Training

During the training at Banyualit Hotel Spa & Resort, success can be measured
through the following indicators:
1. Adjustment to the Work Environment: If the trainee manages to adapt well
to the work environment, including interaction with seniors and other staff, this
can be considered as an indicator of success.
2. Skills Enhancement: If the trainee manages to improve their skills and
