glass introduced into the non-
luminous part of the Bunsen
flame.

Test for Acid Radicals

Action of dil. HCl: No Characteristic gas Absence of Carbonate and

5.
To a small amount of salt dil. evolved Sulphide
HCl is added.
Copper turning Test:
To a small amount of salt heated No Reddish brown gas Absence of Nitrate

8. pinch of solid K2Cr2O7 added and evolved
heated with few drops of Conc.
H2SO4.

Preparation of Sodium Carbonate Extract

A small amount of salt is mixed with twice the amount of solid Na2CO3in a beaker. 20 ml of
distilled water is added and the solution is boiled for 10 min, cooled and then filtered. The filtrate is
called “Sodium Carbonate Extract”.

Silver Nitrate Test:

To a few drops of the extract Absence of Chloride and
1.
dil. HNO3 is added until No Characteristic Sulphide
effervescence stops and 2 ml of precipitate is obtained
AgNO3 is added.

Lead Acetate Test: A white precipitate Presence of Sulphate

To a few drops of the extract soluble in ammonium
2.
dil. CH3COOH is added until acetate and NaOH
effervescence stops and 2 ml of mixture
Pb (CH3COO) 2 is added.

Barium Chloride Test:

To a few drops of the extract A white precipitate Sulphate Confirmed
3. dil. HCl is added until insoluble in Conc. HCl
effervescence stops and 2 ml of
BaCl2 is added.

Brown Ring Test:

To a few drops of the extract
dil. H2SO4 is added until
effervescence stops the solution
4. is treated with freshly prepared No Brown ring is formed Absence of Nitrate
FeSO4 solution and then Conc.
H2SO4 is added in drops along the
inner side of the test tube.
IDENTIFICATION OF BASIC RADICALS
