THE THIRD TERM ENGLISH EXAM

Full Name: ……………….…………………..………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. Mark: ………………..…./ 20

Read the following text very carefully then do the tasks below.
The 21st century has witnessed several devastating natural disasters, each leaving behind trails of
destruction and loss. Yet, amidst the chaos, a remarkable spirit of solidarity and unity has consistently
emerged.
For instance, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which caused over 230,000 deaths across 14 countries,
also started an unprecedented international aid response. "The world came to our aid in a way that was
overwhelming yet heartwarming," explained a survivor from Indonesia.
Similarly, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, despite its massive devastation, saw people from all corners of
the globe coming together to help rebuild the nation. A volunteer from the UK shared, "In Haiti, I saw despair
turned into hope, as strangers became brothers and sisters in our common interest to be there for one
another."
These examples are clear proofs of the importance of international cooperation and the role of
humanitarian aid in disaster response. They remind us that while natural disasters can be devastating, our
collective response can lead to powerful stories of recovery and resilience. As we continue to face global
challenges nowadays, from natural disasters to pandemics like Covid19, the spirit of solidarity remains a
source of hope, guiding us toward a more compassionate and united world.
