To tell time in Kiswahili, we simply adjust the english time based on the
6hour shift system as indicated below;
Asubuhi-morning(6:00AM to 11:59AM)
Mchana-Afternoon(12:0PM to3:00pm)
Alasiri-late Afternoon(3:00PM to 4:59PM)
Jioni- evening(5:00PM to 5:59AM)
Usiku- night(7:00pm to5:59 AM)

In Kiswahili, when referring to minutes to the next hour, we use the

word ‘Kasoro ( ‘meaning less or minus’)’
For example;
1.5:45-saa sita kasoro robo (15minutes to 6:00)
2.6:50-saa saba kasoro dakika kumi (10minutes to 7:00)
3.9:40-saa kumi kasoro dakika ishirini (20minutes to 10:00)
4.11:55-saa kumi na mbili kasoro dakika tano (5minutes to 12:00).
