Providing personal identifiers at an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre

You will need to book an appointment to attend an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre in
person to provide personal identifiers. When you attend your appointment bring:
● this letter
● a current passport.

Information about your nearest Australian Biometrics Collection Centre is available on our
website immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/meeting-our-requirements/biometrics

What happens if you do not provide the information in time

If you do not provide your personal identifiers within the time we have given, and the
requirement to provide personal identifiers is not withdrawn, your visa application may be
refused under section 65 of the Migration Act because the grant of a visa is prevented under
section 40 of the Migration Act.

If you are unable to provide your personal identifiers within the time we have given, you
should attach a letter explaining the circumstances to your ImmiAccount.

If you did not submit your application through ImmiAccount

You can still provide your documents through ImmiAccount if you submitted a paper
application or if someone else submitted your application online for you.

Follow these steps:

1 Create your own ImmiAccount.
2 Import your application. Our website has instructions on how to do this
www.homeaffairs.gov.au/immiaccount
3 Attach your documents.

Biometrics provision for incapable persons

If someone included in this application is an 'incapable person', contact the Department
immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/contact-us/offices-and-locations

An ‘incapable person’ means a person who is incapable of understanding the general nature
and effect of, and purposes of, a requirement to provide a personal identifier. An example
is a person with intellectual disability. Evidence may need to be provided that they are an
'incapable person'.

A person considered an ‘incapable person' will have a photograph of their face and shoulders
only taken.

The Department will require the presence of a parent or guardian when personal identifiers of
incapable persons are collected.

Processing your application

Your application may not be finalised until you have provided your personal identifiers.

The provision of personal identifiers is only one of several stages in the visa assessment
process. Providing your personal identifiers can help us to process your application more
quickly.
