Inline Injection Pump

ATP
Diesel engine with in-line pump
For combustion to take
place correctly in diesel
engines, the fuel must be
injected into the chamber
in a precise proportion and
manner so that ignition is
good and the engine can
function correctly.

The inline fuel injection

pump is frequently used in
high compression ratio, low
RPM, larger displacement
engines. This pump is made up of as many pumping elements as the engine has
cylinders.
Linear pump

It is called a linear injection pump because the elements are in line, it is

characterized because the number of impellers must be equal to the number of
cylinders. The cams are offset according to the firing order of the engine.
Linear pump

Each element consists of a pump body and its corresponding piston, moved by a
cam (as many as there are cylinders), mounted on a camshaft that receives the
movement of the crankshaft through timing gears or toothed belts.

The pressure valve is located at the top of the pumping element and has a parallel
section that acts as a small piston. It acts as a check valve. It retains the fuel in the
tube (pipe) and in the injector at low pressure. But it produces a sudden drop in
pressure in the injector at the end of injection (at the end of the effective stroke of the

plunger).
