The Play
(page 8)
The whole cast should be at the front of the stage singing. Everyone should look
happy. The screen shows the palace and then the lights and stars in the sky.
At the end of the song everyone should leave the stage apart from the sultan and
Jasmine, who should take their seats for the next scene, and the soldiers, who
should take their positions on either side of the stage).
(page 9)
The sultan calls Zaffar. Zaffar enters, and the sultan talks to him. When the sultan
announces that Jasmine is 18 and needs to get married, Zaffar should smile.
Jasmine should look shocked, and when she says that she’s not ready to get
married, she should be very forceful. Jasmine stamps her feet to make her point
that she is not ready to marry yet.
Her father should call the soldiers to escort him out, and Jasmine should leave too,
defiantly using the other side of the stage.
(page 10)
Zaffar should be standing, looking into his magic ball. He should make mysterious
hand movements over the crystal ball as he says his chants. He exits, rubbing his
hands happily and laughing loudly.
For the market place scene the market sellers should put fruits into the baskets and
carry them while they sing a song.
(page 11)
The apple seller’s line “Apples! Apples! Big red apples!” is the cue for Aladdin
and Jojo to enter. Aladdin is initially cheerful but becomes unhappy when he can’t
buy any apples because he hasn’t got any money. Jojo should be jumping around,
interested in everything. When the apple seller turns her back, Jojo steals two
apples, gives one to Aladdin. While they are eating the apples, Jasmine should
enter and go to the jewellery stall. Aladdin’s face should light up when he sees
Jasmine.
(page 12)
3
Jasmine, being a princess, doesn’t realize that she has to pay for the necklace, so
she should look shocked and scared when the jeweler calls angrily for the soldiers.
Aladdin should step in, pretending that she is his sister who is mentally ill. Aladdin
should tap on the side of his head showing that Jasmine is not “all there”. Then
they should run to the front of the stage while Jojo steals the necklace.
(page 12)
Aladdin should scold Jojo stealing the necklace, then he should smile and give it to
Jasmine.
Jasmine’s line “Aladdin! You are very sweet.” is Zaffar’s cue to enter. He should
point to Aladdin and order the soldiers to put him in prison.
(page13)
The soldiers should grab Aladdin and march him to prison. Jojo should look very
said. Aladdin’s sell should be placed in front of the stage. There should be the keys
lying near the sleeping soldier.
Jojo should steal the keys and unlock the door of the cell. Aladdin runs away. The
soldier is after him.
(page14-15)
Aladdin enters the cave. The monster gives him the lamp. The monkey helps
Aladdin to clean the dirty lamp and the genie appears.
(page16)
The genie is ready to fulfill three wishes. Aladdin should pause to think. When
Aladdin chooses the first wish (to become prince), the genie should give him the
turban and a cape. When he chooses the second wish (to go to the palace to marry
Jasmine), the genie should call for the magic carpet.
(page17)
The magic carpet appears from the wings and goes to the centre of the stage.
Aladdin gets on it and disappears in the wings.
The set is changed back to the palace set. At the palace Zaffar uses his snake-stick
to hypnotise the sultan. He should wave his stick in front of the sultan’s eyes.
4
Zaffar’s voice should be slow and eerie. The sultan should slowly roll his head and
fall asleep as he repeats Zaffar’s spell.
(page 17)
When Zaffar has hypnotized the sultan, he should shout triumphantly and then
wake the sultan, laughing the evil laugh. This is Jasmine’s cue to enter. Zaffar
should walk to the side of the stage. The sultan should be dancing and singing
under the power of Zaffar’s spell. Jasmine should look distressed at her father’s
silly behavior. Zaffar should smile evilly when sultan asks Jasmine if she’s ready
to marry him. Jasmine should look shocked. Soon Aladdin and Jojo enter. Genie
also comes unseen if possible. The soldier announces Prince Aladdin. Jasmine
should look surprised and delighted.
(page 18)
Aladdin should be serious when he says that he is there to marry Jasmine. The
sultan, still dancing, should tell Aladdin that Jasmine is going to marry Zaffar.
Jasmine should be visibly distraught as she tells Aladdin that her father has lost his
mind. Aladdin should look round and pause as he spots Zaffar’s snake and then he
should grab it, much to Zaffar’s horror. Aladdin should throw the snake to the
ground. At that moment the spell breaks. The sultan should “wake up”, holding his
head. Jasmine should be in a rage as she accuses Zaffar of being bad.
(page 19)
The sultan should now act normally again, He gives orders to the soldiers to take
Zaffar away. The soldiers chant as they march him offstage.
Aladdin and jasmine express their wish to marry one another. Everyone should
clap loudly and cheer. This is the cue for the genie to shout to be let out of the
lamp. Aladdin should rub the lamp. Then the genie should offer Aladdin his third
and final wish, to which Aladdin should reply that he wants to set the genie free.
Everyone should cheer and clap. The play ends with the whole cast, with the
exception of Zaffar, singing and dancing to celebrate the happy outcome of their
adventure.

Aladdin
The Story
Princess Jasmine is the sultan’s daughter. She is eighteen years old and the sultan
wants her to get married. Unfortunately, Jasmine does not agree. She leaves the
palace and, in the market place she meets a poor boy called Aladdin, and they
become friends.
Zaffar, the sultan’s evil adviser, uses his magic powers to discover that Aladdin
can lead him to a magic lamp. When he finds the boy, he orders his soldiers to put
him in prison. Aladdin’s clever monkey, Jojo, rescues him and they escape,
running away to the desert. They come across a mysterious cave where strange
creatures give Aladdin a dirty old lamp, which, when rubbed, makes a genie
appear. Aladdin is offered three wishes. His first wish is to be a prince and his
second wish is to marry Princess Jasmine, so the genie transports them all to
Azlabar on a flying carpet.
Meanwhile, the evil Zaffar has hypnotized the sultan into believing that he, Zaffar,
should marry Princess Jasmine. “Prince” Aladdin arrives in time to break Zaffar’s
magic spell and to marry Princess Jasmine. Zaffar is taken to prison and everyone
lives happily ever after, including the genie, because Aladdin’s third wish is to set
her free.
