Photos By Anjila Ghimire

On October, 19th 2011 we had a huge school trip to the Toronto Zoo! It was a very, very long and tiring day. But it was very educational and we learned a lot about all different kinds of animals living throughout the whole wide world!!! Despite the rain, we survived the day and came back nice and safe. We had a lot of fun. I am pretty sure we were all wiped out. Thank you to all teachers and staff for making this possible. Read
about the polar bears in the next issue!

For this month we focused on Candy and what the student at Winchester think about candy, gum and other sweet junk food not being allowed in not only Winchester but all schools in Ontario, and possibly Canada.

What Is This Policy Anyway???

The policy states nutrition standards for food and beverages sold in schools. At least 80 percent of food served in school cafeterias has to be fresh produce, whole grains and extra-lean meats. It does not apply to lunches or snacks that are brought from home, but applies to all venues on school property such as cafeterias, vending machines and tuck shops, through all programs, including catered lunch programs and at all events on school property, including bake sales and sport events. http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/extra/eng/ppm/150.html I think candy should be allowed because mostly everybody in this school likes candy.- Samira gr.7 I think candy shouldn't be allowed because some people chew gum and stick it under someone else's table.- Yonis gr.7

As the Ontario Ministry of Education stated, the principal has a 10 days exemption , (which means an exception to the policy) on special events.

I think candy should be allowed because everybody likes candy.- Rahel gr.7

I think candy should be allowed because lots of people are attracted to candy.- Yousef gr. 7 1

Sports at Winchester
Awesome Season For Girls Softball!!
Noryang Lhatso
Congratulation's to the Girls' Softball team for their great play at all their games this season! They did a amazing job, making it all the way to the Conference Finals. The girls won 2 out of 3 games at the tournament, which guaranteed that they were going to the semi-finals. If they won this game they would get a spot in the city finals. Unfortunately the girls lost. They did amazing in representing Winchester. Thank you Ms. Dunne and Ms. Campbell for putting together an amazing team!

Have You Spotted Ghouls or Ghosts At Winchester!!!!!

SOURCE TORONTO STAR OCTOBER 30th 2011
Taps turned on and off, lights flickering, and the smell of an oldfashioned perfume detected by caretakers working the weekend shifts at Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute. All the caretakers will tell you theyve smelled the same perfume, in the same area of the school Western Tech was always haunted. The elevator would go up and down for no reason when (you were) in school by yourself. And when you walked down halls at night, doors would shake like someone was inside .

Model United Nations

Model UN was a very interesting and great experience I look forward to doing it again!!
-Aymen Hussain Gr. 8

1990s, working late at night, was touched on his left shoulder even though his partner was at the other end of the hall. Another time, the other caretaker and I went onto the pool deck and we both looked at each other and said what the hell is going on. It was like there was people splashing water around in the pool.

Tiffany Bouchard Model UN is a simulation of the real United Nations where they debate world issues. We walked in, and all we saw were high school students. For some it was their first time and some maybe their 5th but they were all confident and ready to rock and roll!! They were in their business attire, debating until their brains popped!! Maybe we spoke a couple times but it was a great experience for all of us to get a feel of the real world! The participants were Jamuna C, Aymen H, Zahra I, and Tiffany B.

R.H. King Academy, Scarborough: Board security arrived after a motion sensor went off; they found an open door but no one inside. While searching they heard door handles rattling and voices. Again, they found nothing. To be honest, theres no official documented cases of ghosts or paranorCaretakers have also reported the mal activities at any of our schools scent of womens perfume in the lithough I dont know what official docbrary and balls bouncing by themselves in the gym. Puss in Boots: Movie Review

Jessica Hernandez
Puss in boots is back in his own Movie!! Hes most wanted for robbing a bank 7 years ago,. When trying to clear his name he meets up with his brother Humpty Alexander Dumpty and a girl cat that is also like puss named Kitty. Not to give it all away, it was a really good movie with many laughs. I give it a 4/5. It had adventure with a mix of classic nursery rhymes put in the movie. I recommend that everyone sees this movie.

Skating Will Start On Thursdays!!

Remember to get your skates for a guaranteed fun time!!!

REMEMBER TO TAKE IT EASY ON THOSE HALLOWEEN CANDIES!!!

Whichever type of skate you choose, ensure the boot fits your foot properly. Next, check for protection. The toe cap should be rigid and the ankle bone well padded. Check the skate blade, too. It should be straight and centered on the bottom of the boot. Stand up. If the skate fits, your toe will not touch the end of the boot. The heel should fit snugly and there should not be any wrinkling of the leather around your ankle. To get a more complete feel for the skate, put the liner back in and put the skate on. Lace it and stand up. Your heel and ankle should be firmly gripped, with no excess movement of your foot.

Are you not on the Newspaper Team?? You can still contribute to the Newspaper!! Draw a cartoon! Write a poem! And Article! Take a Photo!! Anything!! Then email it dwwinchester@live.ca!!
