How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH- WEB TECHNOLOGY


We used a lot of web technology to aid our construction and research of our final A2 media product, it helped us distinguish types of genre and allow us to chose our preferred choice. N o t o n l y d i d i t aid us in the preparation but also once we had finished our trailer it allowed us to distribute it, this meaning we could show it to an audience and receive feedback. It also meant we could embed it into wordpress, and have an even easier access. HARDWARE
In the production of our media trailer we used a canon mini DVSLR camera, this was really useful and excelled our production much further. It allowed us to expand our shots, quality of shots and ef fects. Such as being able to focus manually, meaning we were capable to create a dazed ef fect and add emotion to shots through the un -clear haze. We learnt new techniques like depth of field, we used this to show distance and the feeling that the character is alone and lost. The quality of filming was really clear and modified, it was able to take in a lot of light and adjust well to its surroundings. For example, changing and capturing the light from the candle light we used. We also used a tripod to impact the quality even further, it was really stable and adaptable making the shots really steady and varied as we could move it around to dif ferent heights and levels.

SOFTWARE- FINAL CUT


Developing our media technology from AS foundation por tfolio I Movie to A2 advanced using Final Cut express was a giant leap for us that excelled our skills tremendously. Allowing us to create a much higher standard edit to our scenes and shots. It really pushed us technically and to a higher standard. Through Final Cut we were able to edit and cut clips to the exact second meaning much more precise scenes. Also through the editing we were able to improve our transitions and expand from straight cuts to cross dissolves allowing us to show time progressing and characters coming together. It is a ver y advanced sof tware, we were also able to adjust the sound at any point to make it quieter for the voices. Final Cut as a sof tware is extremely organised and compatible, I was able to view both un -edited clips and edited clips at the same time side by side, I was able to constantly see the timeline on which I was editing on along with the music and dialogue. I was able to create really high skilled scenes, for example cutting the shots to make a spilt screen that shows two dif ferent things happening at once. Creating a high quality scene.

SOFTWARE- GARAGE BAND


A big difference that took us by surprise was having to make our own music in A2, which meant using a completely new software that would challenge us highly. For this section we used Garage Band, something we had never used before to make our music. This aided in the creation of our final trailer drastically as it allowed us to make music that fitted perfectly to every scene in our production and through the use of final cuts precise editing we were able to change it, dub it and fit it amazingly to the every scene. By creating our own music on garage band we were able to chose which instrument to use, for example when we wanted a music change to show the climax we changed the music from an up beat guitar to a slow paced piano. The skill to chose our music, pace and tempo allowed us to make smooth changes in scenes and show change in emotions throughout. We changed the music three times, each different songs and tempo. This created such variety in our trailer and made it feel like time was constantly changing showing that the over -all film had more to offer.

ADOBE ELEMENTS PHOTOSHOP


For our ancillary part of our production making we needed to take on entirely new tasks and complete new skills. We needed to make a poster for our trailer and a magazine to show distribution. Firstly we needed to develop our skills of photography and using cameras to create the correct images that suits to our genre and style of trailer. We used Adobe Elements Photoshop to edit our images, again it was a new software to use and entailed using new skills, such as composition of text, colour and framing. For the poster we downloaded and used a Penelope Anne text for the title and quotes, then downloaded onto it a Credit Block text to do the credits. We changed around composition and added an old fashioned layer to make it appear gritty and add to our theme and location.

BAMBOO TABLET
For the magazine cover, we needed to appeal to a certain audience that read the magazine Little White Lies. This is a specific magazine with very dif ferent covers of films, each cover is very unique and detailed to the style of film. For our cover we used the issue of Kirsten Stewart and decided to cartoon our image. To make it to the best ability, entirely unique and specific to our style we used a Bamboo Tablet that allowed us to draw on the picture and create a cartoon appearance. This again was a completely new software for me, and pushed my ancillary further as I was showing new and creative skills. It fitted perfectly to the image as the background was a graphitised wall, so the cartoon matched perfectly and the drawing ef fected added to the light hearted realism.

I also used paint to crop and add the Little white lies logo and to composition it. I used Photoshop to add the title of the Film and composition it as well.

PLANNING AND EVALUATION


To upload and distribute documents and power points of our planning and evaluation onto our blogs we used such sites as Scribd and slideshare. This was a really vital piece to our production, it made accessibility to all our research and planning extremely easy and then further construction. It gave us key presentation skills and made our blog visually pleasing whilst showing our technical ability towards illustration.

WEB TECHNOLOGY- WORDPRESS


Wordpress was fundamentally the key essential to our production, everything we created, researched and planned went straight onto our wordpress blogs to document. We showed our journey throughout A2 through wordpress, it taught us valid skills such as documenting every detail, laying out a key blog, making it accessible and straight forward for a viewer. It also gave us the option to widely gain skills in new embedding software, new web-technology and teaching us the convergence from YouTube to wordpress. Wordpress allowed us to track our progression and visualise I creative abilities and strong points. It also became a vital place for our audiences to learn about our film and then watch it. All our planning and research went straight onto there and showed us what we have done and then what we needed to do in an organised form.
