Case Study: On December 27 th , a 32 year old woman, pregnant with her second child, shows up to Labor and Delivery with her partner after being seen in an OB office. She is in her 38th week of pregnancy. The mother had reported to her OB that she was having some back pain and thought she was contracting. The OB examined her, couldnt detect contractions but the Mom was very uncomfortable. The OB then sent Mom to the hospital for monitoring and evaluation. On admission to Labor and Delivery, the Mom was placed on a monitor and no contractions were noted. The nurse reports this to the mother, and told her that she would notify the doctor on duty. The Mother reports she thought she was coming to the hospital to have her labor induced. The nurse reports that is not standard to induce labor for a pregnancy less than 39 weeks without other indications, but she will let the doctor know what the mother s understanding was.
