THE PROFESSIONAL MAN AND
HIS ATTIRE Joselito S. Flores • 1. Articles of the clothing must be clean and net and should fit properly
• 2. The standards business attire for men in
formal organizations in the Philippines is any of the following sets: • Long-sleeved polo shirt, tie, dark pants
• Short or long-sleeved barong, dark pants
• Three-piece suit of lightweight fabric
3. Some things to consider about the long- sleeved polo shirt: • The color white is still the safest one to stick with • Light blue, beiges or the pts and other pastels are also accepatable colors
• The paler he hue of the shirt, the better
• As for the shirt designs, only solids or thin s
• The conventional fabric of choice is cotton. Cotton/ polyester blends are`acceptable as well for their resistance to wrinkles.
• Silks, see-through fabrics, knits and other shiny
materials are totallt inappropriate for business. 4. Ties always must darker than the shirt. Their material should be of silk or any silk-like fabric. THE HALF OF WINDSOR The Half of Windsor knot is widely used and is ideal for most collars. 1. Hang the longer thicker side to the right.
2. Wrap it around the slimmer side to the right
3. Weave the longer end through the loop and bring down to the left.
4. Wrap the thicker end around the knot
5. Pull the longer and thicker end through the back
6. Slip on the points of the tie in the knot and
simultaneously pull down the other side. Tie the knot tightly, but comfortably. Do this while facing the mirror. The Windsor
More complicated that the Half Windsor and
is a classic. 1. Hand the tie so that the thicker end is longer and to the right
2. Wrap the longer end over the short one and
pull it through the loop. Be sure that you do this from the back.
THE LENGTH • The length of your tie should always be the same. When it is tied properly, the tip of your tie should hit just top of your belt. You may want to leave it just about mid-buckle. • Longer than that would be too long. You will need to adjust the length when tying it. Depending upon your height, you will need more or less fabric to achieve this. The Four-in-Hand Usually worn with the button down collar or the standard color. This is very appropriate for the tall, lean man. 1. Make sure that the right end id approximately 2 ½ inches longer that the left and narrow end. 2. Make the longer end wrap around the short end from behind, be sure that when you finish you are on the right. 3. Turn the right to the left.
4. Pull the longer side through the loop from the
back 5. Slip the end to the loop. Tighten and pull down the short end while balancing the longer end and knot tightly. What is really first and ofteb noticed of you short is you collar. The quality and the fit can make or break your look. There are four collar styles: • The button down collar is the most popular and the most appropriate for business as well as casual and informal wear • However, it should not be worn for formal wear. Make sure that your tie is not too wide for your collar as this will cause the collar to wrinkle. • Also, pull on the fabric creasing it across your chest and pulling the collar out of line. It is best to move the buttons. The round collar is very elegant and distinctive. • It is not very corporate, and should be worn only for casual and fun occasions, like outdoor gatherings or social wear. • It is a very sophisticated collar and is favored by bankers and businessmen.
• But if you happen to have to have a round face, and a short neck, this is definitely not for you. • The standard collar is the most common of all shirt collars, and is the one that usually fits all shapes of face.
