AIRPORT'S ENVIRONMENT

• BENGALURU IS CALLED AS SILICON VALLEY OF INDIA BECAUSE IT ACT AS HUB

FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES IN INDIA

• BENGALURU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LIMITED DECIDED THAT, AIRPOT HAS TO

BE REFLECTIVE OF THE CITY

• THE CITY BENGALURU CALLED AS GARDEN CITY, SO BIAL DECIDED TO CREATE A

AIRPORT FILLED WITH GREEN FIELDS

• THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASON FOR MORE GREEN PATCHES IN BENGALURU
AIRPORT

• THE CONCEPT OF USING MORE GREEN PATCHES IS TO REPRESENT VALUES AS

SIMPLE, CARRYING , ENGAGING , EFFICIENT , ALWAYS WELCOMING

• IT ALSO REDUCES THE POLLUTION AND CREATE ECO-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT

TIME MANAGEMENT

• THE CONCEPT OF THIS AIRPORT MAINLY BASED ON THE TIME MANAGEMENT.

AS WE KNOW OUR HUMAN LIFE WORKS BASED ON THE TIME BASIS

• BIAL DESIGNED IN THE WAY PEOPLE SHOULD NOT WASTE THEIR TIME . THE
CIRCULATION IN THE AIRPORT IS NEVER MISLEAD

• THE NEEDS ARE EASILY ACCESISABLE BY THE PEOPLE . THEY DON'T ALLOE THEIR
ANYONE OF THE CUSTOMER TO WAIT FOR LONG TIME
LEED IS GREEN BUILDING

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in
the world. Available for virtually all building, community and home project types, LEED provides a framework to
create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of
sustainability achievement.

LEED buildings save energy, water, resources, generate less waste and support human health.

LEED buildings attract tenants, cost less to operate and boost employee productivity and retention.

Focuses on materials to get a better understanding of what's in them and the effect those components have on
human health and the environment.

Provides a clearer picture of water efficiency by evaluating total building water use.

LEED works for all building types anywhere. LEED is in over 165 countries and territories.

LEED certification in India is issued by INDIAN GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL.

A LEED FOR EVERY PROJECT
• BD+C -Building Design and Construction
Applies to buildings that are being newly constructed or going through a major renovation;
includes New Construction, Core & Shell, Schools, Retail, Hospitality, Data Centers, Warehouses &
Distribution Centers, and Healthcare.
• ID+C -Interior Design and Construction
Applies to projects that are a complete interior fit-out; includes Commercial Interiors, Retail and
Hospitality.
• O+M -Building Operations and Maintenance
Applies to existing buildings that are undergoing improvement work or little to no construction;
includes Existing Buildings, Schools, Retail, Hospitality, Data Centers, and Warehouses & Distribution
Centers.
• ND -Neighborhood Development
Applies to new land development projects or redevelopment projects containing residential uses,
nonresidential uses, or a mix. Projects can be at any stage of the development process, from conceptual
planning to construction; includes Plan and Built Project.
• Homes
Applies to single family homes, low-rise multi-family (one to three stories), or mid-rise multi-
family (four to six stories); includes Homes and Multifamily Lowrise and Multifamily Midrise.
• Cities and Communities
Applies to entire cities and sub-sections of a city. Using the Arc performance platform, LEED for
Cities projects can measure and manage their city’s water consumption, energy use, waste, transportation
and human experience.
CATEGORIES IN LEED
Projects pursuing LEED certification earn points across several categories, including energy use and air quality.
Based on the number of points achieved, a project then earns one of four LEED rating levels: Certified, Silver,
Gold or Platinum.

Platinum Gold Silver Certified

80+ points earned 60-79 points earned 50-59 points earned 40-49 points earned

LEED assessment process is characterized by two distinct phases, the Design Phase Review and the
Construction Phase Review, whereby the final LEED certificate is only granted by the USGBC at end of
construction.
ABOUT THE LEED SCHEME
LEED assesses buildings against a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues, covering the following 6
categories:

- Sustainable Sites
- Water Efficiency
- Energy & Atmosphere
- Materials & Resources
- Indoor Environmental Quality
- Innovation in Design

For each issue, one or more ‘credits’ are available when specific levels of performance or process are achieved. In
addition, some pre-requisite credits are mandatory for any level of LEED certification.
CERTIFICATES BY BANGALORE AIRPORT
The airport has earned GreenCo Platinum certification from the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Green Business
Centre and LEED Gold certification from the Indian Green Building Council.

LEED Gold certification of the airport was given for following reasons;

Initiatives taken by BIAL on recycling of waste material

• All the Solid Wastes of the airport is being processed scientifically.
• After extracting the Biogas the expelled material is converted to Compost.
• The Pet bottle, plastic, polythene etc. sent to authorised recyclers.
• Newspaper & waste papers are sending to ITC Ltd for recycling.
• Tetra packs are send to an SAHAS (NGO) an authorised institution for collecting the tetra packs.
• Glass bottles are separated for coloured Glass & others, it is send for Pulverising Industries for recycling
Installation of Ambient Air Quality monitoring system
Installed Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station with Online Display to monitor the ambient air quality
and continuously monitors the air emissions and submit the report to KSPCB.
Installation of Noise Monitoring Station
Continuously monitoring noise level generated due to aircraft movement. Installed two permanent Noise monitoring
station outside the airport campus in two nearby villages at exactly on the aircrafts movement lane. Monitoring the
noise level up to 10 KM radius by mobile noise monitoring station.
Waste Collection Centre
The waste collection center is constructed to handle the waste generated in airport by means of scientific method of
segregation and recycling. It is constructed in environment friendly manner. The roof top of the waste collection center is
fixed with transparent roof for natural light illumination due to which the activities at waste collection center takes place
without light during day time. The main idea of this structure is to save power. The activities at waste collection center
are planned in day time only. The roof mounted exhaust system runs on wind energy to eliminate the foul smell through
roof top resulting in no energy consumed as well the exhaust is directed upward direction thus eliminating the foul smell
at ground level. The platform of the waste collection center is raised by 10 ft. from ground level in order to avoid any rain
water entry or animals.

Introduction of roof glazing system in terminal building to minimize the day time light usage.

Water balance analysis on monthly basis.

Enhancement of Landscape area by 60 acres this year to achieve a total area of 360 acres.

Use of solar energy to reduce grid energy consumption.

Making all the energy consuming devices automated and use of movement and day light sensors in toilets ,passage ,
etc.
