son of former Executive Secretary Atty. Catalino Macaraig and Araceli Andaya. His siblings are Marissa, Miriam, Mel, Monina and Muriel—all graduates of U.P., holders of law or masters degrees, and noted in their respective fields. The author is a journalist in Daily Star and a Senior Correspondent of Agence France-Presse. The Emperor’s New Underwear • Characters • a. The Protagonist Emperor - an emperor who is always proud of his palace, of his city, and who is found in his beautiful clothes. • b. The Antagonist Charlatans - the two lazy swindlers who trick the emperor to make lots of money by making a fake magic garment. • c. The Supporting character Prime Ministers, Officials, People • d. The Victim Is also the Emperor The Emperor’s New Underwear • Settings 1. Ceremonial Parade in the Emperor's Kingdom a. first part - at the palace - in the city- on the next day b. latter part - at the palace- the next morning - at the street - the next morning The Emperor’s New Underwear • Plot Emperor loves clothes. Two charlatans came into town saying they could wave great cloth. If you can't see it, it means you're stupid. Emperor ordered clothes. Chamberlain and emperor couldn't see clothes. Town saw he wasn't wearing any cloths, but he kept walking in procession only in underclothes. Child noticed the underwear. The Emperor is ashamed of this incident, to cover up he ordered his people to wear underwear only. At first his people followed him, but the next day they wear their regular clothing again. Chamberlain told frankly to the Emperor his mistakes. The Emperor’s New Underwear • Conflict a. Man against man - when the Emperor and Chamberlain talk and discussing the ordinance the Emperor ordered. b. Man against society - when the people disagree with the Emperor's ordinance. c. Man against himself - when the Emperor focuses on his foolishness. The Emperor’s New Underwear • Climax This is the time when all the citizens have known the proclamation made by the Emperor. Some of the people where absolutely shocked. And all the people in the street are strip. The few citizens were locked up in their houses. And soon, the Emperor wants another parade and the town was assembled once more to see. All people were disgusted by him. So the people decided to just wear their regular clothing like normal people. The next morning, the Emperor got very angry because of the people wearing their regular clothes The Emperor’s New Underwear • Ending Happy ending - The decree was abolished and the Emperor's relations with his people returned to normal as well The Emperor’s New Underwear • Moral Lesson • The moral of the story is don’t trust to much the people around you, even though you are the in highest position and don’t be selfish even though you are more like stupid in front of entire people, accept the fact that once in a life time you are embarrassing in front of you domination. Because sometimes innocent children can see things more clearly than adults. Don’t always assume that people around you is always right even though you are in higher position. The Emperor’s New Underwear Recommendation • If you become a leader, be humble and kind. Never boss people around you think about how you would like to be treated. Because leaders become great, not because on their power, but because of their ability to empower others. And also a leader leads by example, whether he intends or not. END
