INTRODUCTION

Earthquake causes drastic disaster of thousands of human lives

and national wealth due to the destruction of civil engineering
structures. To reduce the destruction of the structures many
methods have been invented. Here we are going to deal with
advance techniques for earthquake resistance by reducing
earthquake-generated forces acting upon the structures. Two
such method are the base isolation method and tune mass
damper methods.
AIM:
 To study the strength and applicability of
base isolation system and tune mass damper
method.

OBJECTIVE:
 To prepare earthquake resistant building
 To analyse the seismic effect on base isolated
structure and tune mass damper provided
structure.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Review Paper
Base Isolation Method - The Best Retrofitting
Technique ISSN: 2348 – 8352(issue 5 May-16)

• This paper gives a review on base isolation technique and

briefly on other global retrofitting techniques in the world
for making the structures earthquake resistant. The
properties of base isolated structures are highlighted.
• The aim of retrofitting techniques is to upgrade the
lateral strength of the structure and increase the strength
and ductility of structure. Earthquakes are considered as
one of the most dangerous natural hazard.
Effect Of Base-Isolation For Building Structures
(Issue 4 April-2015)

• Base-isolation is best technique to prevent or

minimize damage to buildings during an earthquake
disaster. In the present study of base isolation in
structural analysis for five storied moment resisting
frame with lead rubber seismic isolation has been
studied using SAP2000 software.
• In previous study various parameters were consider
related with different base isolation technique for
base shear, acceleration, torsion, storey drift etc.
PATENTS:
LEAD RUBBER BEARING: The invention provides a
lead core rubber bearing. The lead core rubber bearing
is formed by processing a plurality of rubber pad layers
in stacking mode, wherein a hole is formed in the
middle of the rubber bearing, and a lead rod is
inserted in the hole.

TUNED MASS DAMPER: An apparatus for damping
dynamic response in a primary structure in one, two
or three dimensions includes a secondary mass, and
a spring and a visco-elastic element, the spring and
visco-elastic element interposed between the
primary structure and the secondary mass.

METHODOLOGY
• Gathering information about base isolation and
mass tune damper method.
• We are going to build the model with aluminium
,wheels for base isolation method, weights for
tune mass damper method.
• We are going to prepare 3 models :
1. Conventional model.
2. Model provided with Base Isolation.
3. Model provided with Tune Mass Damper.
ANALYSIS OF THE MODELS
• We are going to apply manual external forces
on the model .
• We are going to test the models by its
behaviour on application of the force.
EXPECTED OUTCOME
• Higher effectiveness between base isolation
and tuned mass dampers by conducting some
experiments
• Considering different parameters such as :
1. Stability provided to the structure
2. Ability to withstand an earthquake
3. Remunerative
