CASE STUDY 1 - THE ATOTONILCO WWTP
• Treats 60 percent of the residual
waters from the Valley of Mexico,
solving the flooding issues during
the rainy season, improving water
quality for irrigation of 80,000
hectares.

• Nearly 20 million people live in

this area.

• The largest wastewater treatment

plant in Latin America and one of
the largest in the world

• Max capacity: 50,000 L/s

• Capacity(dry season):35,000 L/s
CASE STUDY 1 - THE ATOTONILCO WWTP
• Of the treated water, 67% will be used for irrigation and 33% will be sent
directly back to the river.

• Physical-chemical process train:

Based on Chemically Enhanced Primary Treatment (CEPT) to clean up storm
water flow discharged to the river.
A high-rate activated sludge (biological) treatment for wastewater flow to be
reused in irrigation (Acciona Agua 2017)

• Water obtained is Based on NOM 003-SEMARNAT - regulation that establishes

the minimum water quality requirements to be used for agriculture.

CASE STUDY 2
• Audi México - San José Chiapa, Puebla, Nov,15th, 2018
Capacity: 21 L/s of Waste Water, designed to treat the waste water generated
in plant processes.
Treatment Plant by Reverse Osmosis.
Audi Mexico plant is free of external discharges of wastewater:
• Purified water is used in internal production processes
