Institute Background
■ World’s oldest Business School, established in 1819
■ One of the most selective French Grandes écoles and referred in France as one of the "trois Parisiennes" (three Parisians) together with HEC Paris and ESSEC Business School ■ Located at the heart of Paris (Rue St Maur) ■ Has five campuses – Paris, Madrid, London, Berlin and Torino (StEx students typically go to the Paris campus) ■ FT Rank 5 in the MIM programme ■ Website: https://www.escpeurope.eu/ Teaching and courses ■ Lectures in English (available in French as well) ■ A French language course is available for those who wish to learn French ■ Mandatory seminar (Europe Does Matter) for exchange students ■ Teaching methodology – cases and lectures ■ Faculty are friendly and approachable ■ Attendance – manual signing of an attendance sheet, hence proxy might be possible. 80% attendance is mandatory, otherwise an F is awarded. ■ Exams – mid terms for some subjects and end terms for almost all subjects. Post mid terms ( in Oct 2nd week, there is a break of one week. Long trips can be scheduled during this time) ■ Subjects are easy and studying for a few hours is sufficient to pass ■ Wide range of courses offered – Marketing, Finance, Strategy, Economics, HR etc. Duration ■ Induction week – usually in the 1st week of September – mandatory for exchange students to attend ■ Each lecture is for 3 hours per subject per week ■ Classes can be scheduled on 2 days of the week and a full credit course runs for 10 weeks while a half credit course runs for 5 weeks ■ Professors are given freedom to reschedule classes twice during the semester, but it can be rescheduled only on the same day and time slot of the following week. So the exchange programme duration is 13 weeks (1st week of September to 2nd week of December) ■ We had classes on 24 days out of 90 days after the induction week Living experience ■ Lifestyle in the centre of Paris can be experienced ■ No accommodation is provided by the college ■ Two options – Hostels or Airbnb. The latter is usually cheaper ■ Option to stay at the outskirts and travel by train (takes 1 hour one way) or to stay near the college and walk ■ Accommodation near the college is expensive – usually double the rate than that near the outskirts but very safe and closer to main stations as well ■ Beware of pickpockets in Paris, especially in the metros.
