PARTS OF COMPUTER
 Hardware
• Monitor.
• Motherboard.
• CPU(Microprocessor).
• Main memory(RAM).
• Read only memory (ROM).
 Software
• Application Software.
• System Software.
 Hardware
 Computer hardware includes the physical parts of
a computer
 Hardware is typically directed by the software to
execute any command or instruction.
 Hardware includes:
1. Monitor.
2. Motherboard.
3. CPU(Microprocessor.
4. Main memory(RAM)
1.Monitor
A computer monitor is
an output device that
displays information in
pictorial form.
A monitor usually
comprises the visual
display, circuitry, casing,
and power supply.
2.Motherboard
The motherboard is the
main circuit board of your
computer and is also
known as the mainboard
or logic board.
The motherboard is a
computer’s central
communications
backbone connectivity
point, through which all
components connect.
3.CPU
Stands for "Central
Processing Unit."
The CPU is the primary
component of a computer
that processes instructions.
It runs the operating
system and applications,
constantly receiving input
from the user or active
software programs.
4.RAM
Random-Access Memory
is a form of computer
memory that can be read
and changed in any order,
typically used to store
working data and machine
code.
RAM temporarily stores
all information a device
needs for the present and
future
4.1:Types of RAM
 There are two main types of RAM which includes;
1. Dynamic RAM
2. Static RAM
• DRAM (pronounced DEE-RAM), is widely used as a
computer's main memory. ...
• SRAM (pronounced ES-RAM) is made up of four to
six transistors
5.ROM
Read-only memory (ROM)
is a type of storage medium
that permanently stores data
on personal computers
(PCs) and other electronic
devices.
ROM contains the
programming needed to start
a PC.
It performs major
input/output tasks and holds
programs or software
instructions.
5.1:Types of ROM
 There are four main types
of ROM which includes;
1. MROM (Masked ROM).
2. PROM (Programmable Read
Only Memory).
3. EPROM (Erasable and
Programmable Read Only
Memory).
4. EEPROM (Electrically Erasable
and Programmable Read Only
Memory).
 Software
 Software is a collection of instructions that enable
the user to interact with a computer, its hardware,
or perform tasks.
 Without software, most computers would be
useless.
 For example, without an operating system, the
browser could not run on your computer.
 There are two main types of software which
includes;
1. Application Software.
2. System Software.
1.Applicationsoftware

• Applications software is capable of

dealing with user inputs and helps the
user to complete the task. It is also
called end-user programs or only an
app.
• It resides above system software.
• Some examples of Application Software
are; Word processing software,
Spreadsheets Software, Presentation,
Graphics, CAD/CAM, Sending email
etc.
2.Systemsoftware
• System Software (a type of computer
program) provides a platform to run
computer’s hardware and computer
application to utilize system resources
and solve their computation problem.
• It is written in a low-level language.
• The best-known example of system
software is the operating system
(OS).It responsible for manages all the
other programs on a computer.
