Introduction

Robotics is a branch of engineering and science that

includes electronics engineering, mechanical
engineering and computer science and so on. This
branch deals with the design, construction, use to
control robots, sensory feedback and information
processing. These are some technologies which will
replace humans and human activities in coming years.

Robots have become a subject of

great interest nowadays.
In our imagination, a robot is a
machine that looks and acts like a
human being.
LAW'S OF ROBOTICS

★ First Law- A robot may not injure a human being or, through
inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
• ★ Second Law- A robot must obey the orders given it by
human beings except where such orders would conflict with the
First Law.
• ★ Third Law- A robot must protect its own existence as long
as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second
Law.
• ★Zeroth Law- A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction,
allow humanity to come to harm.
• The Three Laws, and the zeroth, have pervaded science fiction
and are referred to in many books, films, and other media.
They have impacted thought on ethics of artificial intelligence
as well.
The Robot control loop

A control loop is:

★Get a reference
★Get a feedback
★ "Decide what to do" given the reference and feedback
★Perform an action (or not) based on the decision.
• ★This process continuously repeats.

Model of a control loop paradigm-

Types of Robot

 Industrial Robots
- Materials handling
- Inspection
- Improving productivity
- Laboratory application

 Mobile Robots
- Repairing ships
- Robots arms to assist doctors in surgery

 Educational Robots
- Motivation for learning
- Developing new ways of communication
- Pro active spirit

 Domestic Robots
Industrial Robot

• An industrial robot is a robot system used

for manufacturing. Industrial robots are automated,
programmable and capable of movement on three or more
axes.
• Typical applications of robots include welding, painting,
assembly, disassembly, pick and place for printed circuit
boards, packaging and labeling, palletizing, product
inspection, and testing; all accomplished with high
endurance, speed, and precision. They can assist in material
handling.
• In the year 2020, an estimated 1.64 million industrial robots were in
operation worldwide according to International Federation of Robotics
(IFR)
Mobile Robot

• A mobile robot is a machine controlled by software

that use sensors and other technology to identify its
surroundings and move around its environment.
Mobile robots function using a combination of
artificial intelligence (AI) and physical robotic
elements, such as wheels, tracks and legs. Mobile
robots are becoming increasingly popular across
different business sectors. They are used to assist
with work processes and even accomplish tasks that
are impossible or dangerous for human workers.
Educational Robot

• Robotics engineers design robots, maintain them,

develop new applications for them, and conduct
research to expand the potential of robotics.
Robots have become a popular educational tool in
some middle and high schools, as well as in
numerous youth summer camps, raising interest in
programming, artificial intelligence and robotics
among students. First-year computer science
courses at several universities now include
programming of a robot in addition to traditional
software engineering-based coursework.
Domestic Robot

• A domestic robot is a robot used for household

chores.(Housekeeping is the act of cleaning the
rooms and furnishings of a home).
• Example- Vaccum Cleaner
• It has a positive Global Impact
Basic component of Robot

• Main Component of Robot are

• 1. Body/ Frame
• 2. Control System
• 3. Manipulators
• 4. Drivetrain
Robotics movement

• The vast majority of robots do have several

qualities in common. First of all, almost all
robots have a movable body. Some only have
motorized wheels, and others have dozens of
movable segments, typically made of metal or
plastic. Like the bones in your body, the
individual segments are connected together with
joints.
