    Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna
    • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is an initiative by the Government
    of India in which affordable housing will be provided to the urban poor with
    a target of building 2 crore/ 20 million affordable houses by the year 2022.

    • Objective is to provide Affordable homes with water connection, toilet


    facilities, 24x7 electricity supply and complete access.

    • Total 1 crore homes are approved against total demand of 1.12 crore as of
    28 December 2019. All 4041 Statutory Towns with focus on class-I cities
    will be covered in 3 phases initially.

    • It has two components: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY-U)


    for the urban poor and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) (PMAY-
    G and also PMAY-R) for the rural poor.
    PMAY Four Vertical Pillars
    Technology Sub-mission Adopted
    A technology Sub-mission under the yojna would be setup to facilitate adoption of modern,
    innovative and green technologies and building material for faster and quality construction of
    houses. It will also facilitate preparation and adoption of layout designs and building plans
    suitable for various geo-climatic zones.

    Technology Sub-mission Adopted
    • The Sub-Mission will work on following aspects:
    1. Design & planning.
    2. Innovative technologies & materials.
    3. Green buildings using natural resources.
    4. Earthquake and other disaster resistant technologies and design.

    • The Centre and State would also partner with IITs and NITs and planning & Architecture
    institutes for developing technical solutions.

    • State/region specific needs of technologies and designs would also be supported under
    this Sub-Mission.

    • Speed Floor System.
    • Factory Made Fast Track Modular Building System.
    • Light Gauge Steel Framed Structures (LGSF).
