LEADERSHIP 101
WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?

• Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving


a common goal. In a business setting, this can mean directing workers and
colleagues with a strategy to meet the company's needs.
• Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group of individuals to
influence and guide followers or other members of an organization.
•  Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of
others, towards the achievement of a goal.
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD
LEADER?

• The most important qualities of a good leader include integrity,


accountability, empathy, humility, resilience, vision, influence,
and positivity. “Management is about persuading people to do
things they do not want to do, while leadership is about inspiring
people to do things they never thought they could.”
INTEGRITY

• Integrity means being honest and having strong moral


principles. A person with integrity behaves ethically and does the
right thing, even behind closed doors.
ACCOUNTABILITY

• An obligation or willingness to accept responsibility


• If you take responsibility for your own actions, you show
accountability. Stepping up and admitting it when you break
something shows accountability. 
EMPATHY

• It’s the ability to step into the shoes of another person, aiming to
understand their feelings and perspectives, and to use that
understanding to guide our actions. 
HUMILITY

• The definition of humility is the feeling or attitude that you have


no special importance that makes you better than others.
RESILIENCE

• It’s your ability to withstand adversity and bounce back and grow
despite life’s downturns.
• Resilience is what gives people the psychological strength to cope
with stress and hardship. It is the mental reservoir of strength that
people are able to call on in times of need to carry them through
without falling apart.
VISION

• Leadership vision is an essential means for focusing attention on


what matters most; what you want to accomplish in your life and
what kind of leader you wish to be. 
INFLUENCE

• The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or


behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.
POSITIVITY

• Positivity means thinking in an optimistic way, looking for solutions,


expecting good results and success, and focusing and making life
happier. It is a happy and worry-free state of mind, which looks at
the bright side of life.
LEARNING ACTIVITY / ICE BREAKER
SURVIVAL LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES

• Divide the participants into three (3) teams.


• Present them with a survival situation , in this case a shipwreck.
• Choose five items that will help them survive. After each team finish
picking up the items, they will justify their choices.
