occurs.
The Delta and Wye designations
Both transmission and distribution networks employ the wye structure, whereas distribution networks
use the delta configuration. Wye connections are preferable in situations where beginning torque is
critical while delta systems are favored in applications where starting current is less critical. Shorter-
distance power transmission networks employ delta connections, whereas longer-distance networks
use wye connections. For small industrial buildings, Delta was largely employed, with a reasonably
substantial (240 VAC) motor load but just a limited demand for convenience outlets and lighting.
Three Phase connection system
The three-phase distribution system is the most often employed
electricity produced in three different phases, each with an equal frequency and
voltage but with voltage offset by 120 degrees between any two phases.
The three connection points are dismantled to free up the supply
Line voltage is equal to phase voltage. Three times root of the phase voltage is line voltage.
