using an event to make immediate
and relevant connections with clients
that are spontaneous and ephemeral
with their clever content around it
for interacting with customer in real
time.

Gets Unnoticed: Face Backlash:
• Most advertising goes unnoticed • PV Sindhu won a bronze at the Tokyo
anyway. Brands trying to force-fit Olympics, many brands congratulated
their proposition or offer into any her using her name and pictures but
news event without any relevance or without her consent. And this resulted
link to the brand only increases that in Sindhu sending notices to 15
probability as consumers will ignore companies.
and even be irked • Zomato was boycotted on twitter for
using offensive language.
Success Stories
• Amul: Utterly Butterly
Deliciously Timed
• Amul has been using moment
marketing since 1960s often had
bandhs or hartals and so the
creators came up with “Bread
without Amul Butter cholbe na,
cholbe na (will not do!)”.
• Even the Leftists loved it. Slowly,
current events-driven Amul ads
became very popular, and have
remained the mainstay to date.
Success Stories
• Zomato: Love them,
hate them you just
can’t ignore them
• Zomato has been a master
of utilizing this form of
engagement. There are tons
of examples to showcase
how comparisons have
been carried out by Zomato.
Conclusion
• These days brands are making a real-time connection with customers through
moment marketing. That is because customers are always looking for a
particular trend or news on social media, and their chances of getting discovered
increased, besides creating a high recall.
• Moment marketing is short-lived. Brands can leverage for only a particular time.
(or, should I say, till the time an event is trending)
• What Brands should focus on is to take a stand for a particular cause (in an
ongoing controversy) rather them using the moment for short time.
