INTRODUCTION

 Water Service Connection

 means the water or recycled
water pipe, valves and other
facilities by means of which
the utility conducts water or
recycled water from its
distribution mains to the
meter and meter box located
at a specified place of delivery
of water to a parcel of land.
 Water from various sources is
treated and purified through
various steps
 It is then stored in tanks and
reservoirs for use
 Water Service Connection  is any
water line or pipe connected to a
distribution supply main or pipe
for the purpose of conveying
water to a water user’s system.
SERVICE CONNECTION
COMPONENTS OF HOUSE WATER CONNECTION

FERRULE:
GOOSE NECK:
A cap widely used in pipe and fixture joints to create
Forms a flexible connection between water main and
a tight compression fitting
service pipe
STOP COCK: WATER METER:
Controls opening and closing of Measures the quantity and velocity of
water supply water consumed
SERVICE PIPES AND MATERIALS USED
FOR SERVICE PIPES
SERVICE PIPES

 Service pipes are pipes that run

between the distribution mains in
the street and the meter in a
household
MATERIALS FOR SERVICE PIPES

 Cast iron

 Wrought iron

 Galvanized iron

 Steel

 Copper

 Brass

 Stainless steel

 CPVC

 HDPE, etc…
CAST IRON PIPES:
1. Most common form of pipes for water supply
2. Can handle high pressure and huge quantity of water
3. Long life span, good tolerance for temperature
Demerits:
4. Prone to rusting, needs frequent maintenance
5. Heavy, difficult to transport
6. Due to weight, limitations in size

GALVANIZED IRON PIPES

1. Made of iron coated with a layer of zinc
2. Good corrosion resistance, long life span, light
weight
Demerits:
3. Needs frequent maintenance, rust can build up on
the inside
HDPE PIPES
1. High density polyethylene pipes are strong, flexible,
durable, lightweight
2. Zero leakage when fixed together
3. Joints and heat fused, resists corrosion, chemical,
bacteria
4. Good temperature resistance
Demerits:
5. Susceptible to crack
6. Poor UV resistance

COPPER PIPES
1. Used commonly before CI and GI pipes
2. Resistant to corrosion, bacteria
3. Lightweight and durable
Demerits:
4. Expensive
5. Susceptible to extreme heat or cold, can burst it extreme
cold and crack when heated
CPVC PIPES
1. Handles higher temperatures, up to 180 degrees
2. Stronger than PVC
3. Can be used for both hot and cold water application
4. Easy to cut and join
5. Corrosion resistant and lightweight
Demerits:
6. or strength compared to CI and GI pipes
7. Cant be used in very high pressure
