In job advertisements, the job is briefly

described. The exact name of the company
and the address should be given. If these
three are not in the advertisement, start
getting suspicious of the ad.
 The educational background required of

the applicant is highlighted.
 Sometimes, job experience is preferred not
required.
 Having a preferred age of the applicant
may sound discriminatory, but there are
some jobs that demand flexibility, mobility
and lot of physical work.
 Requiring a certain height may also sound

discriminatory, but there are jobs that
require a tall person.
 Religion and ethnicity should never be a

hindrance.
The Job Application Process

First, a company would advertise for a vacant job
position. Applicants will start sending in their
applications. These applications are sorted, and
the applicants with the most suitable credentials
are screened through a phone interview.
The applicant that pleased the hiring manager

during the initial interview are then invited for a
face-to-face interview. Then the application
forms may be filled out and examinations may
be given such as personality test and language
proficiency exams.

The applicants are further trimmed down based on the
result of face-face interview and examinations.
If there is one qualified candidate for a position,
another round of interviews may be given.
The most suitable candidate is then offered a job and its
compensation package.
If the applicant accepts the job offer, the contract is
signed and the applicant is hired.
Pre-employment documents
Cover letter
By its name, covers the resume. It should be short and simple.

The first paragraph should highlight the objective for applying in
the job position and how you have discovered the position.
The second paragraph should highlight the credentials that qualify
you for the position.
The third paragraph should bring a friendly end to your letter by
offering how you can be contacted.
Resume
This should be of one page. The resume should contain

important details of the credentials that you have
mentioned in the cover letter. Your highest educational
attainment is the most important. You do not include
your kindergarten and elementary achievements.
Portfolio
It is a compilation of proofs of your achievements.

Example, if you are a photographer, you can compile the
most beautiful photos you have taken in a clear book

background, education, achirvements, work
experiences, and any relevant experiences.

You should do a background check on the

company. Indicate that you want to grow with
the company.
3. In a team, are you the leader or a follower?
Give specific examples that would show how

you have demonstrated being a leader or a
follower.
4. What has been your most stressful situation

and how you did you handle it?
Be sure to describe well the context. Highlight

the steps you did to overcome it.
5. Why should we hire you?
“Why are you the best fit for the job?”

Highlight your skills and accomplishments that
make you the best person for the job.
6. What is your edge over other applicants?
Highlight the special skills that you have and

others may not have.
7. What are your goals 5 years from now?
Never mention that you only gain some

experience because you plan to go abroad. You
can combine your personal goals and your goals
that will contribute to the company.
8. Describe your greatest achievement in life.
Explain why it is the greatest achievement in

your life even if it is a small thing.
9. Describe one time in your life where you

failed and how you handled the situation.
Be sure to explain the context. Highlight the

process where you handled or process the failure
and narrate the learnings you gained from it.
10. What are your career plans?
Describe plans that would also contribute not

only your personal growth, but also the growth
of the company.
11. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Strength - skills, talents, good traits, character,

values
Weaknesses - things you are not good at, your

negative traits that you want to improve
