Why these numbers matter
• According to research conducted on the hiring process, the
average number of resumes that come in for a job opening is
anywhere between 50 to 250+ depending on the type of job
and where it is located. Boeing recruiters indicate average is
usually over 300 resumes…
• The same research found, the recruiter or hiring manager
spends anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds looking over a
resume to determine if it moves forward in the process.

Formatting your resume
• Errors from previous page: graphic, border, shape fill, centered, line spacing, white
space & font.. Best Fonts = Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri (True Type Fonts). Body
text font size: No larger than 12 point and not less than 10 point. Don’t make your
margins & font tiny just to keep it to 2 pages, edit instead. Standardize margins.
• Ensure there is space on your resume between the words. Too much text can be
ignored.
• If you are using a cover letter, ensure it has the same font/formatting as resume.
• Ensure that appropriate verbiage tense is used within your Work Experience section, (i.e,
current job core role and responsibilities should be written in present tense).

Resume Quiz! True or False
• My volunteer work for a BRG is relevant to my resume
True! This would go under the accomplishments category, BUT the best practice is to tell what
you did and try to quantify if possible
• You should include references in your resume
False. Employers will ask if they need references
• You should state your salary requirements in your resume
False. Employers will ask if they need salary requirements
• It is ok to exaggerate on your resume, everyone does
False! Boeing would consider that fraud. It is ok to estimate when you don’t have exact
numbers or money saved for example, but don’t exaggerate
• Your resume should be one page in length
Not necessarily. One page whenever you are handing it to a person face to face, where they
will skim read it. For a online application you could submit a resume up to 3 pages however, 2 is
usually better since the hiring managers will still print out the resume should they choose to
interview you. 2 pages may also help you with key word search algorithm.
