This research aims to study and discuss the transportation challenges face by the commuters along
Central Public Market to DARBCI Route of General Santos City. Through surveys, interviews, and
data analysis, we aim to identify the issues faced by commuters and provide insights that can inform
policy decisions, infrastructure development, and transportation planning, leading to an improved
transportation experience and sustainable development for the route.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
• Public transportation is a crucial part of commuters' lives in cities and towns all over the world. Commuters
depend on it to travel to and from. Moreover, good active commuting infrastructure and an attractive public
transportation system are the keys to success. Thus, waiting time and longer travel time are the major
drawbacks (Wethyavivorn, P., and Sukwattanakorn, N., 2011). Also, Pagkatotohanan, J. (2022) stated that
inadequate public transport, high fees, and congested roads, long waits at stations, limited walkways, and
safety concerns are challenging for commuters. In addition, crowding, delay, and accessibility were some of
the sources of the commuters’ anxiety (Cheng, 2010).
• Many publications have explored the challenges of commuting and transportation. Jay Pagkatotohanan's
2022 article, "Long Queues, Traffic Jams: Common Commuter Problems in the Philippines," cites a Social
Weather Stations survey that found 42% of Filipino commuters find their daily travel more difficult than
before. Commuting in the Philippines is typically long and unpleasant, with limited options. While
authorities are responsible for resolving this issue, learning about common commuter problems is the first
step to easing the burden.

REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES
• According to a study conducted by Gottholmseder et al. (2009), factors such as the mode
of transportation, distance traveled, and speed can affect one's stress level during their
commute. Commuters typically evaluate their experience based on the mode of
transportation they use. However, the study suggests that a shorter commute can lead to
less stress, even if it means using a slower mode of transportation. It's important to
consider all factors when determining the best commuting option.
• In addition, a 2007 study by Gatersleben and Uzzell found that car commuters experience
more stress than those who use other modes of transportation, with delays and other
drivers being the main causes. Public transport users also find delays stressful, along with
boredom. Walking and cycling are considered the most enjoyable and relaxing forms of
travel. Emotional evaluations of daily commutes are influenced by travel time and
personal attitudes toward transportation.

METHODOLOGY
Research Locale
The study will be conducted at Route 8: Central Public Market to DARBCI of General Santos City,
Philippines. This route was chosen because researchers wanted to learn more about the transportation
challenges faced by the commuters of Central Public Market to DARBCI Route.

METHODOLOGY
Research Instrument
The questionnaire was used as the main data-gathering instrument. The instrument to be prepared focused on
answering the statement of the problem. The questionnaire will be distributed to the commuters in the form of a
survey.
The questionnaire was used as the main data-gathering instrument. The instrument to be prepared
focused on answering the statement of the problem.
After establishing the validity and reliability on how gather-data, formulating questions appropriate for the
study and all doing necessary modification to the chosen respondent. Copies of questionnaires distributed will be
successfully completed and returned. Thus their corresponding answers to the question are kept in accordance with
the agreement of the respondents and the researchers.
The data gathered was organized and tabulated according to the result of the statistical treatment done. In this
stage, the service of a statistical consultant was needed.
