help people transition to their self-identified gender.

a body that aligns with their gender. It may involve
procedures on the face, chest or genitalia. Common
transgender surgery options include:

and the choice of procedures depends on an individual's
preferences, health, and gender identity.

Common procedures include hormone therapy, chest or


breast surgeries, genital reconstruction surgery, and facial
feminization or masculinization surgeries.
Facial Surgery
Facial reconstructive surgery to make facial features
more masculine or feminine.

Cheekbones: Many transgender women have


injections to enhance the cheekbones.
Chin: You may opt to soften or more prominently
define your chin’s angles.
Jaw: A surgeon may shave down your jawbone or use
fillers to enhance your jaw.
Nose: You may have a rhinoplasty, surgery to reshape
the nose.
Top Surgery
Chest or “Top” surgery to remove breast tissue for a
more masculine appearance or enhance breast size
and shape for a more feminine appearance.

Genital or “Bottom” surgery to transform and reconstruct the genitalia.
Side Effects of Sex Change
In a 2015, Boston study of 180 transsexual youth who had undergone SRS
(106 female-to-male; 74 male-to-female), these youth had a twofold to
threefold increased risk of psychiatric disorders, including depression,
anxiety disorder, suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, self-harm without
lethal intent, and both inpatient
Is Sex Change Legal in the Philippines?

The Clerical Error Law of 2001 (RA 9048) makes it illegal for transgender persons in the
Philippines to change their sex in their birth certificates. The said law specifically states that
“no correction must involve the change of nationality, age, status or sex of the petitioner”
without a judicial order.
In conclusion, the Supreme Court ruled that a person's first name and sex cannot be
changed on the ground of sex reassignment or sex alteration or sex change because there is
no law allowing such.
What are the risks or complications of gender
affirmation surgery?
Different procedures carry different risks. For example, individuals who have bottom
surgery may have changes to their sexual sensation, or trouble with bladder emptying. In
general, significant complications are rare, as long as an experienced surgeon is performing
the procedure.

With any surgery, there is a small risk of complications, including:


Bleeding.
Infection.
