The design process of structure planning and design requires not only imagination and conceptual
thinking but also sound knowledge of science and structural engineering besides the knowledge of
practical aspects such as recent design codes, by laws, backed up by sample experience, intuition and
judgment. The lay out plan of the proposed building is drawn by using AUTO CADD. The planning is
done as per Indian standard code provisions. The purpose of standards is to ensure and enhance the
safety. In our project, we analysed and designed (slabs, beams, columns, footings) using STAAD PRO
software. Thereafter, the loads are calculated namely DEAD LOADS. Which depend on the unit weight
of the materials used (concrete, brick) and the LIVE LOADS which according to the code IS 875 – part
2 WIND LOADS which depends as per the code of is 875 – part 3 and finally SEISMIC LOADS is
calculated as per the code value in IS 875 – part 4 . The main concept of this project is to provide
sustainable atmosphere by designing the DORMITORY BUILDING.

CONCLUSION
The Dormitory building is planned as per the LPA (local planning authority) and
National Building Code guidelines. The framed structure is analysed by STAAD.pro
software and design is carried out by limit state method.
STAAD pro has the capability to calculate the reinforcement for any concrete
section. The program contains a number of parameters which are designed as per
IS:456(2000). Beam and Columns are designed for flexure. Shear and torsion.
We gained knowledge in the preparation of structure drawing in AUTOCAD
and STAAD.pro.
