Methodology - Schedule

– Details the content of every class
– Generic schedule

• Aula Global (this is the good one!)
• With date & time & lecturer & room/online per group
• All the material is accesible through Aula Global
– In the website of the ‘Magistral’ group
– The name of the resources start with letters that identify them in the
schedule (si.j, L, PC, etc.)
Methodology – Classes
• The content explained during the “Magistrales” classes are a subset
of the whole content of the course
– Students must cover ALL the contents as detailed in the table of contents of
the course (see Excel file in Aula Global)

– It is assumed that students can access the basic bibliography (Kurose&Ross

Methodology – “Magistral” group
• Explanation of key concepts
• Slides available in Aula Global
– Per session
– Or as a single zip file with all of them
• May not be sequential
– The rest of the content will be worked out in the reduced groups, labs
or as personal homework

Exercises classes
• Selected exercises from the book will be published in Aula
Global so students can prepare them before the class
• Exercises will be done individually
• In the class, the teacher will select two exercises so students
can prepare each one during 15 minutes without material
– Data from the book may be changed
• After 15 min. The teacher will discuss in the blackboard the
exercises
Tests
• Tests (T1-T4)
– Will include a short test and one or several exercises to be solved in
class using the online platform
– There will be 4 of them along the course
• T1 introduction and application layer, T2 transport layer, T3 network layer, T4
link layer
Final exam
• In addition there will be a final exam that will cover all the
course
– This exam is NOT mandatory and NO minimum score is required
Labs
• Concept lab practices (optional)
– Very basic and easy lab practices
– Students can do them on their own (they will NOT be done in class)
• Network design lab exercise
– Will be done as homework, delivered using Aula Global and solved in class
• Lab practices
– Routers. Will be done in class. Evaluated in class.
– Will be done individually.
Evaluation
• Continuous evaluation means 70% of the total score and the final exam means
the other 30% (it is NOT necessary a minimum score in the final exam or in any
other part of the course to calculate the final score that must be of at least 50
points).
• The exam Will be 3 points of the final grade
• The 7 points of the continuous evaluation part is as follows:
– 4 proofs of concept test (PC): 1 points each. Every test will last 1.5 hours.
– Labs:
• IP addressing design (Ld, it will be done by couples as homework): 0.5 points
• Lab practices (routers Lr): 2,5 points Lr (personal work, not couples, done in the virtual lab).

Optional Homework
• It is possible to deliver using Aula Global
– the proposed exercises
– the concept lab practice
• These exercises and practices will not be corrected during
the course and will only be considered in case the student
final score is between 4.5 and 5, 6.5 and 7, 8.5 and 9 or
above 9 points
– Keep an eye on them because they can easily raise your grades
these tenths you may need
