Rotation of the Earth
What You Need to Know?

The Globe represents the Earth. It gives an accurate

The Earth is a planet. It is one of the picture of the Earth’s surface. It shows the location of
planets in the solar system. It is the places on the smaller scale. When you turn the globe on
only planet that can sustain life. its axis, you are actually rotating and spinning it.
WHAT IS ROLE OF EARTH'S AXIS?

The axis is a fixed line through

the center of the Earth from the
North Pole to the South Pole
WHAT CALLED THE MOVEMENT OF EARTH TO ITS AXIS?

The Earth, like the globe, spins

or rotates on its axis. This
movement is called rotation.
WHY WE CANNOT FEEL THE ROTATION OF THE EARTH?

You are on Earth, but you cannot feel that

the Earth is rotating. This is because the
objects cut in sphere so far away that the
Earth does not pass them as it rotates.
You cannot feel the Earth’s rotation
because it moves very smoothly in space.

The Earth rotates on its axis in a progade motion. Since, the

rotation of the Earth is in the direction from west to eat, the moon,
sun and other celestial bodies appear to move from east to west.
The direction of Earth’s rotation from west to east is as viewed
from the North Pole star Polaris.

PERIOD OF THE EARTH'S Rotation
What You Need to Know?

The Earth rotates on its axis continuously, we cannot tell what we

feel the Earth’s rotation, but it’s actually completes a one whole
rotation. The Earths rotates on its axis in about 24 hours, with
respect to the sun but once every 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 secs
with respect to other distant stars. As the earth rotates, only half of
the earth faces the sun at any given time the half facing the sunlight
is day. At the half facing away the sunlight is night, so that does
mean that all places on earth experiences any day and night.

MAKE A SUNDIAL

For your information:

Sundial is an earliest type of timekeeping
device which indicates time of day by the
position of shadow of some object exposed to
sun rays. As the day progresses, the sun
moves across the sky, causing the shadow of
the object to move and indicating the passage
of time.

Feel free to use more then just crayons to decorate it.
3.Cut out the small black hole in the center of the sundial.
4.Take everything outside and put your sundial on the ground. Use rocks to hold down
the sundial and stop the wind from blowing it away. You may want to glue it to a piece of
card board.
5.Stick the straw into the center of the sundial so that is goes into the ground.
6.Use the clock to see what time it is. Turn your sundial so that the shadow cast by the
straw point to the correct hour on your sundial.
7.Observe how the shadow moves like the hands on the clock.

DAY AND NIGHT
What You Need to Know?

Daytime is when you see the sun from where you are and
its light and heat can reach you. Nighttime is when the sun
is on the other side of the earth from you. And its light and
heat can’t reach you. We get day and night because the
earth spins on an imaginary line called its axis and
different parts of the planet is facing the sun or away from
it:

What You Need to Know?
As the Earth rotates on its axis, the Earth also travels around
the sun in a path called orbit. The motion around the sun which
called a revolution. The amount it takes for a single trip around the
sun is a period of revolution. The period for the Earth to revolve
around the sun is 365 1/4 days. This period defines as a year.
The calendar we presently use, the Gregorian Calendar only
uses 365 days. So to compensate for the excess time to keep the
calendar in a syn with a revolution of the Earth, a leap year is used
every four years. A leap years adds one day to the end of February.

EFFECTS OF THE REVOLUTION OF THE EARTH
What You Need to Know?
The spinning of the earth caused day turn to night. While the full revolution
causes summer to become winter. Combined the spinning and the revolution of the
earth causes our daily weather and global climate by affecting wind direction,
temperature, ocean currents and precipitation.
The tilt of the earth with its elliptical orbit affect the period of day and
night as well as the seasons are not caused by the distance from the sun, but rather
by the tilt of the earth axis. Summer is warmer than the winter because the sun
rays shines more directly than during writer, also because the days are longer than
nights. During enter the sun rays hit the earth a sleeper angle. Producing shorter
days.
The equinoxes are the days in which day and night are all of equal duration
while the solstices are the days when the sun reaches its farthest northern and
southern declination creating both shortest/longest day of the year.
