The irony of the annual AO3 donation rage is that given the current political situation in the U.S., donating to an org that has a legal arm that fights for free speech online (yes, about fanfiction and fanworks, but these things create precedent that affects other stuff) is probably at its most morally defensible. Like a lot of these people whining don't even know what the OTW as a whole does, they just think it's Fanfiction Website.
this is very true but even if it WAS just a fanfic website, there still would be nothing wrong with donating to ao3. they are paying to keep entertainment that they and their peers use and enjoy frequently free for everyone. i think that alone is not a bad goal.
Fully reached the point where I’ll overhear someone say something like “The economy is failing because of The Jews,” and my first thought is somewhere along the lines of “Oh my G-d, if you’re going to blame us for something, choose a more creative conspiracy. Shake it up a little. ‘Jews control the money’ is such a tired take, blame us for the strawberries being kinda bland this season or something.” Like come on guys, if you’re going to be antisemitic, at least choose something I can have fun with.
