ur future nurse is using chapgpt to glide thru school u better take care of urself
Yep. This is terrifying. I’ve caught nursing majors, engineering majors, architecture majors relying on ChatGPT to do their homework. These are people who need to know their field well to ensure people don’t die and they’re letting a glorified algorithm cheat them through school. It’s so dangerous
hey. hi. I work in academia. and there are a lot of student-age folks on this site.
don't do this. don't use genAI. even if your professors give you permission. even if they ask for it or suggest it. if they do anything short of directly requiring it (and I weep, because I've already seen assignments that require it) don't touch that crap. if they do require it, stick it to them. be as maliciously compliant as possible. be a nightmare.
I know it might sound easier right now -- just plug in your assignment and get the answers. you don't care about this class anyway, it's not for your major, you don't see the value of the assignment.
but for your own sake, for the sake of your education and mind, and for the sake of the future world we want to have: learn the stuff. you are not as stupid as the corporate bizzaro kings who want to rule the world think you are, so don't give them reasons to believe it.
and odds are good genAI is gonna give you corrupted info anyway -- more and moreso as the machines cannibalize themselves.
just don't do it. not even "I just do it for XYZ--" no. stop. there is no valid use of generative AI, and even using it for memes or lolz feeds the system and directly feeds the pockets of the people who want to replace you anyway.
Because humans process through metaphor and story, here:
"I took a welding class and hired someone to do my assignments for me. He did great! I got the best grade in the class. But then I tried to get a welding job and they fired me for my poor work. It makes no sense! How can my work be poor? I got the best grade in my welding class!"
Does that help?
"Also, my welding killed like thirty people."
not a week goes by without me remembering this jhonen vasquez strip and i so often want to reference it and i keep forgetting it is not, in fact, a well-known meme
I have never seen this before, but I have lived it. I don't even work i a bookstore.
Passed by a sign that said “bong recreation area” and immediately googled it and it became ten times better
just ripping fat doinks at Dick Bong State Park in Kansasville USA which is totally a Real City and not a completely fictional place from a Marvel comic
the funniest thing about the tiktok tradwife craze is people learning financial abuse exists but like, as a hypothetical. "wait what if the relationship doesn't work out and you have nothing of your own and nowhere to go?" congratulations you figured out a common reason people remain in abusive relationships and why it's important to maintain some level of financial independence
It's important to remember this even if your partner is not abusive.
There are lots of reasons that a relationship might end (or should end, amicably, with no one at fault), but if one partner has no income, a big gap in their work history, and no savings....
and this, kids, is why alimony was invented. not as some kind of "revenge" against a partner who wronged you. but to protect generations of mostly-women who were faithful helpmeets until their man decided they wanted a younger model. and then those former-helpmeets found themselves with no money, no employment history, no credit rating, no job skills, and facing minimum wage scraping at fifty after a lifetime of putting dinner on the table and washing everyone else's socks. i bring this up because i hear often that we should do away with alimony, and i do agree that it should be re-examined in light of how the world has changed. but it should never go away until the world is such that any person finding themselves in that situation wouldn't be facing poverty and struggle in their twilight years.
my 89-year-old, very Catholic, extremely Southern grandma worked in a bank for most of her life, even though my grandpa had a much cushier job as a government accountant with a pension and shit, because she wanted a backup in case my grandpa was hit by a bus or something and wasn't able to work anymore. like, divorce wasn't even the thought there - it was literally in case she needed to support the family if something happened to him.
like, you could do everything right, your relationship could be literally perfect, and you STILL should have some degree of financial independence so that you can support yourself/your partner/your family if necessary.
This is also why it is critical that assets are in your name. Not just in your partner's name.
You should also have a bank account in your name only just incase something happens to the relationship and the joint accounts are frozen due to dispute, or if your partner dies and everthing is in their name you can no longer pay bills or eat.
I have seen many old ladies locked out of all their money because everthing was in their husband's name and he's died.
I present to you…
Eñeventh doctor!

During Jason’s crime lord era
Dick: “I’ve pinpointed all the locations where Jason was sighted. Maybe there’s a pattern and we can see where he’ll turn up next.”
Bruce, staring at the map, very clearly spelling “fuck you”: “…There certainly is a pattern.”
shows should have 22 episodes a season again where half of them are low stakes silly fun shit happening. this i believe with my whole heart
And the low stakes silly fun shit episodes should immediately precede the most traumatic hour of television you've ever seen in your life. As nature intended.
AS NATURE INTENDED
the problem with being creative is that you start to feel very guilty when you haven’t created anything in a while
do you get upset when a field isn't ready for harvest at all times? your seeds are doing mysterious things in the dirt. but you have to leave them hidden in the dirt or they won't grow
