Upcoming Fics on AGB!

Greetings, everyone! Now that Femslash February is over, it's time to get back to my Weeklies! I'm so excited to keep posting fic, especially since it seemed like people really enjoyed the work I did for FSF. It's always so wonderful to feel like a real part of a community! I even got an increase in comments! Comments! Absolutely wonderful.

As always, my Weeklies schedule is tentative! Things are subject to change, but, as of writing, this is the current plan! This is... aspirational. There's gonna be a mix of rewrites from my old fics—many of which are sorely in need of some TLC—alongside some new works! One of which is going to be my submission for the Dragon Age Big Bang! I'm so happy to be participating in such a project, and the community has been utterly wonderful!

As it was last time, this post is a live document! Schedules always change, after all! I will be linking all completed fics on this post!

Thank you again to everyone who has been engaging with my stuff!

fatima aamer bilal, excerpt from i mother it, the absence of her.

[text id: the hatred for the word mother is so sweet. / you can hate everything related to it. mother tongue, mother’s hometown, motherhood, everything. / but then you say mom, and you’re six years old again standing at the foot of her bed waiting for her to open the covers, let you in and ask you about your misery. / you know, before she became a part of it.]

inquisition should have gone further with the idea of a non-human herald of andraste honestly. i love the lines flissa has about “they sent you to punish us for mistreating the elves! not me though i’m a friend to the alienage please no smite” bc it’s one of the few allusions to the fact that non-human adherents of the faith are going to be perceiving this prophet in ways that, while still andrastian, pose a direct threat to the doctrines of the religious establishment. “the herald is literally the soul of shartan returned to us to finish his work” is absolutely something people would say about an elf pc, if i was in dragon age world i would be constructing a whole cult around that and using it as a vehicle for my insane fringe politics

Flissa is my favorite Regular Person in Inquisition. The first time you talk to her, if you're anything other than human then she says at least one mildly offensive thing about your race while trying to be polite. If you are human then she accidentally hits on you, backpedals, recommits, then backpedals again.

She's the funniest person in Haven and I'm obsessed with her.

Lord Inquisitor Quinn Julius Barrington Trevelyan, fourth son of Bann Trevelyan of Ostwick, Champion and Herald of the Blessed Andraste

You may have seen his formal wear before, but here it is now in greater elegant detail of soft red velvet with golden embroidery and pearls harvested from Rialto Bay.  His portrait is wreathed in purple carnations representing pride, beauty, and capriciousness.

As I get more comfortable in this style, I will be doing companion characters next.  Let me know who you would like to see first!

Not For A Second

(Neve Gallus & Rook, Zevran Arainai/Loghain Mac Tir/Female Warden)

Nessa Thorne does her best to hide away when she can. To leave the battlefield, if only for a moment. Somewhere high up, where the weight of the world feels less crushing. Sometimes, she succeeds. Sometimes, a certain detective picks up the trail.

Dragon age portrait no.3 for the absolutely wonderful @ohmyarda

Drawing her various characters makes me want to draw my old ones as well!

Also, if you haven’t already please check out her art!

ᴅʀᴀꜱᴛᴇ ᴛʀᴇᴠᴇʟʏᴀɴ

“Born to the Trevelyan noble family of Ostwick in the Free Marches, you were originally intended for a life of privilege—until magical abilities surfaced at a young age and you were forced into a life of confinement within Ostwick’s Circle of Magi. Protected but stifled, educated but isolated, the Circle would have been your entire future had the mages not rebelled against Chantry rule.” Prologue

This is my contribution for the big Dragon Age collab @kirstinetheartist put together in celebration of this fandom and the release of Dragon Age Absolution!

My Inquisitor Quinn Trevelyan was due for an upgrade since my first alteration of the formal Winter Palace uniform back in late 2019/early 2020.  Much like the Free Marches themselves, Quinn’s formal attire takes inspiration from a couple of different places and eras.  Black riding boots and white jodhpurs are a staple of his wardrobe and a callback to his family’s legacy of horse breeding.  The coat is based upon an elaborate 17th Century velvet coat I saw in a museum collection.  The gold embroidery is accented in pearls along the collage, trim, and cuffs.  The feathered cap is a Tudor-style flat cap that would likely be made of velvet to match the shoulder cape (also based on Tudor and Stewart era British fashions).  Instead of any sort of military insignia or sash, I gave Quinn a belt that was meant to be similar to the Ukranian krayka and French-Canadian ceinture flechee.  It is meant to be both practical as well as ornamental, and embroidered with patterns and imagery that would be unique to the Trevelyans. The peacock feather is simply because Quinn himself is a bit of a peacock.

This was also a significant departure from my normal colouring/painting style.  Because this was such an exciting project and because I was working alongside so many wonderfully talented artists, I wanted to take the opportunity to try something different.  The Japanese artist Hidari did some of my favourite character designs within the Fire Emblem franchise when he did the artwork for Shadows of Valentia.  It always had this colourful but soft watercolour quality to it.  This is my own homage to that while keeping to my own individual drawing style.

Quinn was a lot of fun to work on, and a lot of hours were put into this!  (It was all painted with one brush.)  I am very proud of how he has turned out. :)

"The Herald of Andraste"

So, have I told you how much I love the Dragon Age series, especially Dragon Age Inquisition? I adore it dearly...to me, it is one of the best games ever made (besides Skyrim and Witcher 3). The details & environments are gorgeous; I could run around forever just admiring the different sceneries/climates. Also, the interactions in the DA games are just the best, and I love how you can create relationships. I recently beat DAI for the 2nd time a couple of weeks ago. I'm always sad when I finish a game, especially one I thoroughly enjoyed. Do you feel that way, too?

My OC for DAI was the female human warrior, from House Trevelyan. I named her Bryony. I always try to make the characters look similar to myself, but I've got such odd features that I can never create a character that looks like *ME*. Of course I had to make Bryony go for Cullen. Cullen is so dreamy. He's hot for a video game character. ;-D I did make Bryony go for Dorian until it was discovered Dorian was gay! (So tempting to create a male character to get the relationship with Dorian. :3 ) But I adored the relationship between Bryony & Cullen. The 2nd time I played the game, I actually had all the DLCs, which are amazing additions to the game and overall storyline. I was stoked when Byrony got to marry Cullen. Made my fangirl self feel tickled to death.

The armour Bryony is wearing is a "heavy armor" schematic I crafted using Stormheart. Stormheart makes for pretty armour with the iridescent blue-pink-purple colours. The sword was a "Strong Brutal Claymore" schematic I used, also with Stormheart, equipped with the "Superb Corrupting Rune". I couldn't figure out how to make that effect as I drew it (it looked more like flames than the actual effect), so I actually "cheated" by using a smoke brush in Photoshop Elements to add to the sword. I drew this entire fan art before I equipped Bryony with that badass "Armour of the Dragon Hunter" (obtained from the Jaws of Hakkon DLC) and the Sulevin Blade.

Every other Monday [starting from today], I will be posting this specific kind of DAI fan art until I finish all 10 playable characters, which means it will be a countdown until Dragon Age Day (December 4th)!

Drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron pens, then coloured in with a mix of Copic Markers & Ohuhu Markers. White accents were done with a gel pen. The Inquisiton symbol, stars, dots, & blooms on the trees were done with a gold Golden Paint acrylics, but the scanner killed the gold and it looks "flat" (in real life, the drawing looks awesome with the super metallic gold). Font done in Photoshop Elements.
