@a-most-beloved-fool

I'm not going to call this a Star Trek blog, but it might be a Star Trek blog. you can send asks! really! you can! you can even do it anon-style! Oh I guess it might be relevent that I have an AO3

Garak and Bashir pining while have constant sex is actually the most queer man thing ever actually

@dreamerdrop i know in my heart the first three years of ds9 was Bashir sending screenshots of their chat to Dax to analyse the subtext like a 13yo girl. Meanwhile Garak has fully hacked their chats and is Reading it but hes convinced Bashir has an infatuation but could never love the "real him"

thinking about the effects of Kira being raised in a refugee camp and never (as far as we know) having a formal education never being addressed on the show properly. she's obviously not a scientist or an engineer but her position as first officer still means that she has to supervise all of the engineers and scientists on ds9 to some degree. and as much as the Starfleet characters are uncomfortable with roughing it and the terrorist tactics Kira still needs to use every once in awhile, i think it's a really underrated idea for Kira to be just as uncomfortable with a lot of the high-concept science thrown around between the Starfleet people. she knows all of the practical stuff she needs to – how to repair essential technology, how to fly ships, how to use weaponry – but i could imagine her being really insecure about not fully understanding the underlying concepts the way everyone in Starfleet does.

anyways, i think Jadzia would pick up on Kira's insecurity eventually and would start giving her secret math lessons to get her up to speed so she can join in on all the Science Talk.

Obsessed with the way Julian enters this fight and immediately seems to pull their hand to be pointing the knife at him. (And also seems surprised at the way that a knife pointing at him means there's a knife pointing at him :3)

Totally choosing to read this as Julian having that slightly superior strength, but no idea how to use it in hand-to-hand combat apart from to make himself the target. I love that for him <3

THIS IS SO SILLY I LOVE ITTTT. THE HAIR BRAIDING EXISTS :333

[EDIT: deleted scene from Vision Awry.]

“Ugh,” the trill huffed in frustration. “You need to grow your hair longer, Julian, this is impossible.”

Miles laughed, and he wasn’t the only one -- Kira was chuckling at the scene, and Julian was too, shaking his head in response. “That’s not going to happen,” he told her.

“Don’t move your head,” she ordered. “Maybe if I try this…”

“You’ll never get it like that, old man,” said Sisko, earning himself a glare from Dax.

“You think you could do better?” she challenged. From the look on the commander’s face, Miles wouldn’t have bet against the man.

“I could certainly try,” replied the commander. “If, of course, you don’t mind, Doctor?”

Miles did not know what his response would be if Sisko ever offered to braid his hair, but he imagined there would be a lot of stammering and turning red involved. Julian, of course, was a completely different breed of man.

“If you’re going to braid my hair, sir, you should probably call me Julian,” his friend responded, and Miles felt his cheeks growing pink on Julian’s behalf, because casual dinner or not, that was not how you spoke to your commanding officer.

(For more, watch out for an update of Vision Awry in , uh, early June? 😅 But this has been plaguing my imagination for at least a month and now I've finally got there I needed to share it because I'm having WAY too much fun to keep this to myself!)

Apparently there was another paragraph I just found??

He was glad that Julian had relaxed again, though. Even if there was a part of him that felt slightly disgruntled that his friend could seemingly brush off his grief over Miles’ death so easily. That was a nasty, uncharitable thought, and Miles was ignoring it as much as he could. It wasn’t like he was actually dead, and he definitely didn’t want Julian to be feeling sad. But he couldn’t help feeling that if he’d been the one to watch Julian die several times over, he wouldn’t be at all okay right now.

Actually, I feel like I ought to add, realising it's not in here, that:

--Sisko absolutely slays at braiding. (He used to do his little brothers', and Jake's before Jake decided to get short hair. It's very nostalgic for him.)

--Jadzia tries to copy him on the other side of Julian, but continues to get frustrated.

--Miles' hands gets itchy, because he knows he can braid Molly's hair well, and often does fiddly engineering, and kind of wants to know if he can match Sisko's handiwork. When Jadzia gives up in a huff, he takes over.

--Kira comments she's never learnt how. This results in Jadzia offering her hair to practise on, but not being able to tutor and be the model at the same time. So she drags Miles over to show Kira how to do it.

--Odo would be very happy just to watch, but once Kira has got the hang of it she insists on "teaching" him... He ends up getting even more invested in it than she is and asks the chief to come back over to correct his technique.

--And Julian's pretty content, sitting on the floor sleepily getting his hair pulled around and his friends all chatting and arguing with each other.
