The pov switches are even funnier one chapter naruto’s like “Sasuke has aligned himself with orochimaru for POWER” the next chapter sasuke is going off at orochimaru about how disgusting and unethical he is and like murdering him. “Sasuke is with the AKATSUKI” next chapter sasuke is telling the akatsuki to fuck off. “Sasuke has a mastermind plan to DESTROY konoha” and there’s a panel of sasuke drinking boba tea being like “Yeah i don’t got a plan i thought we could just kill them all”

I hate how glossed over it is that Jiraiya was just as much as a sexual predator as Orochimaru in regards to Naruto, and how Jiraiya is seen as a great god father when he didn’t do shit for Naruto!

Naruto has been abandoned, isolated, and hated his entire life. He will take any attention he can get – hence him vandalizing the Hokage mountain, being loud and disruptive, etc. because even bad attention it better than no attention at all. However, Naruto’s need to attention takes a turn for the worse because as a young child you notice what people like and what they don’t like and Naruto isn’t dumb, it’s not like he can’t tell that there are certain features that are more appealing. 

And that’s exactly why Naruto makes his Sexy no Jutsu because he recognizes that people (particularly men) react well to it, whether it be for distraction purposes or them having a nose bleed and fawning over him. He isn’t changing his entire physique just not to be recognized but also to get positive attention in the form of predatory behavior. Naruto was a child when he made this technique because he wanted positive attention. Like i just can’t wrap my head around how fucked up this shit is.

It also gets worse when Jiraiya gets in the picture. Jiraiya has not only abandoned his godson for 12-13 years (Sasuke take notes) in order to write porn but constantly encourages naruto to entertain this behavior. For example, when naruto does his sexy no jutsu for the first time in front of Jiraiya, Jiraiya ogles him and tells him to stay in that form if he wants to be trained. Let’s just remember that Naruto is a 13 year old who has not only changed his body to have a stereotypically female physique, but also appears 100% naked, and with pig tails which has the connotation of child-like innocence. Like this shit is terrifying!

Naruto, A CHILD, should not feel like he has to become a “sexy” woman to obtain positive attention. He should also not be told by a man IN HIS 50s to stay in that form for his own sexual pleasure like what the genuine FUCK????? So not only does Jiraiya exploit Naruto’s need for attention but also reinforces that behavior and line of thinking that “hey i can get what I want once i am seen as sexually attractive” WHICH NARUTO LEARNS AS A CHILD

itachi is wrong lol. i don’t mean that as “my personal interpretation is that itachi is wrong”. i mean that he is intentionally and explicitly meant to be wrong.

itachi is portrayed fairly heroically or at least tragically throughout the latter half of shippuden. ive talked about how the concept of legitimate genocide is ridiculous, how there needed to be some self reflection on his part on the sheer scale of suffering he caused, even if he was ultimately a tool and not the primary instigator (and obviously also was a child)

but the one thing itachi holds himself accountable for is his treatment of sasuke:

itachi’s insistence on seeing sasuke as a “blank canvas” with no thoughts and opinions of his own is, in his words, his failure. for a long time, he didn’t even see sasuke as capable of individual thought, to the point where he plotted to brainwash him into serving konoha - he feels he has the right to control everything in sasuke’s life, because sasuke’s own point of view is apparently non-existent or possesses no value.

here, he admits that had he approached sasuke as an independent human being from the start, the outcome of his life would be significantly less fucked

additionally: a quote i often see in conjunction with this panel sticks out to me. it’s Kishimoto saying sasuke is a “pure” person who basically “does what he wants” without thinking of right or wrong. i don’t think that’s exactly what he depicted in his actual writing, sasuke doesn’t totally disregard right or wrong - but the key here is that he at least has a fierce desire to “do what he wants” which is in contrast to itachi’s belief that he’s a blank canvas for others to project their will onto

sasuke resists orochimaru’s manipulation almost entirely. i mean, he uses him for power yeah, but then he kills him and frees all his prisoners. he retains a moral code while orochimaru’s other victims are thoroughly brainwashed (look at taka, and later chino, and the way they approach human life).

he doesn’t swallow obito’s words instaneously either, and confirms his story with danzo, itachi, and the kages later on. frequently being targeted by manipulation doesn’t mean he is somehow inviting it or especially susceptible to it. even in this panel, exhausted and emotionally drained from “killing itachi”, he’s still resistant

i just think “blank canvas” is an interesting and also really fucking creepy description that really captures itachi and sasuke’s entire relationship. the tragedy of their bond is that itachi does love sasuke, but fallaciously assumed he would remain frozen in time as an impressionable 8 year old, incapable of making his own decisions. itachi was wrong, and for once the manga doesn’t shy away from acknowledging it.
