Autistic people sometimes struggle with apologizing, because they're never taught how to do it the right way.

When autistic people are taught how to apologize, they're often taught that the sincerity of the apology is determined by how well they can hide their disability.

Not enough eye contact = insincere apology

Struggling to phrase it = insincere apology

Wrong tone = insincere apology

Asking questions to figure out how to prevent doing it again = insincere apology (and "arguing" or "making excuses")

Meanwhile, neurotypical people can continue their patterns while still being considered sincere by these standards.

If you're a single issue feminist and you want to raise your son to respect women but you also use authoritarian parenting, you're pretty much guaranteeing that your son will be sexist. You're pretty much guaranteeing that your son will think being sexist is siding with the resistance, which is a common piece of propaganda that sexists use.

If you deny any struggles that he has and you expect him to care about women's struggles, you're pretty much guaranteeing that he will see feminism as women getting special treatment.

If you demand that he respect women and also demand that he respect authority, and if you call it "disrespect" when he yells at you in direct response to you yelling at him first, then you're pretty much guaranteeing that he won't take complaints of "disrespect" seriously.

If you rule with an iron fist and make him afraid of you, you're pretty much guaranteeing that he won't respect anyone who can't make him afraid of them, and the vast majority of women who he disrespects are not going to be able to make him afraid.

If you want him to question society's harmful attitudes against women, you also have to raise him to question society's harmful attitudes that benefit you. This includes society's harmful attitudes against children.

What the media won't show

Itโ€™s actually pretty nuts how there is no real mass media coverage of the protests that are happening all over the US. It demonstrates fairly conclusively that the unlawful activities at the White House arenโ€™t just limited to Trump. Thereโ€™s a lot of wealthy people in powerful positions in the US and around the world helping to support the dismantling of the US federal government.

just remembered the other day a teen approached me holding a rapidly melting chunk of ice in his hand and asked if i wanted to buy a "limited edition pet rock"

sometimes I wonder why y'all are obsessed with specific characters and I'm like "why them" but then I remember that sometimes its literally not your choice you just look at them wrong and all of a sudden they're taking up your every thought forever

Holding up snarky signs doesn't seem to be working.

For me, it isn't about whether this action is appropriate or not. It's about how this kind of action is inevitable.

I'm going to let Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. explain in a quote no one seems to post during his annual holiday.

"It is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear?"

If you only speak up about a supercharger catching fire and ignore the unheard, you are prioritizing a thing over people.

whatโ€™s wild is that using his kid as a human shield is an admission that his would-be killers have more compassion and humanity than he does. if he actually thought the people seeking to kill him were evil radical terrorists then why would he think having a kid as a human shield would help?
