I finally came up with a new ref sheet for my newsie boi! I wanna make it looks like a comic page or sth.

And here are some fun facts about him!
  • Illiterate

Phil can't read and relies on other newsies to read the headlines to him each day to stay informed.

  • Short-ass

He's 15 years old now but only 4'10'' due to years of poor nutrition, often mistaken for being younger than he is. He doesn’t mind, though—he sometimes plays up his small stature to gain sympathy and sell more papes.

  • The old ukulele

While selling, he saw a broken-neck ukulele in a pile of trash. Finding it interesting, he picked it up and brought it back to the lodging house. After attempting to reattach the neck with a bandage, he discovered it was still playable and cherished it ever since.

  • Only memory of his father

The only thing he knows about his father is his real name "Damian." His father wanted him to carry the name. However, Phil feels no attachment to it. Instead, he prefers his newsie name—Phil, a name that truly belongs to him and the life he chose.

i had a surgery and hadn't drawn in a long time while i recovered. but between recovering i saw DEH live. it was incredible to recall the musical fully, and live for the first time.

here's doomed siblings connor and zoe murphy, maybe in another life, and alot of healing, they could be close again.

Hi there! I'm so glad you asked. I've been working on his backstory lately.

Phil never knew his father, and his neglectful mother forced him to fend for himself. By five, he began selling papes to survive. Struggling with poor sales, he turned to stealing but was often caught and beaten. At seven, he met Race, who introduced him to the Manhattan newsies. There, he found a sense of belonging and eventually moved into their lodging house, where he felt his fellow newsies became his true family.
