Anas has gastric cancer.

Anas (@dr-anas96) is severely suicidal and is dying on the inside in every sense of the word. Mentally he feels his life is over, and physically he's barely moving anymore, only occasionally coming to consciousness and vomiting blood.

I'm begging you from the bottom of my heart not to let my friend die. This entire time, during this genocide he's living through, he's been:

Now, with some reprieve for Gazans seemingly so close, he is dying. I don't use this word lightly because I don't want to believe my dear friend is dying. I am only saying it because I have no escape from believing it

But I still have hope that we can carry him through this so he can see the end of this difficult road. I am not giving up on him and I'm begging, begging, begging, begging you all not to give up either. We're so close.

I didn't want to share some of the more graphic photos Anas sent me, but his campaign goes days without donations, and he insisted I share these photos. CW for blood under the cut.

atp i hope it's clear that my stance is not that everyone needs to like and be okay with generative ai art, my stance is that i am not going to take your reasons for disliking generative ai art seriously if they are rooted in the idea that it's bad because it can't produce art with a soul. or that the very act of desiring an artistic output without putting in Enough Work To Deserve It is threatening the fabric of society.

It's an obscenely conservative way to think about art and i'm not going to give it any legitimacy at all. i don't believe in a human soul and i don't believe the value of art comes from the amount of toil it required. i think that, right now and for the rest of human existence there will be creatives who continue to use the tools at their disposal to express meaningful ideas into the world. i don't think the idea that one of those tools could theoretically be an AI image generator is that unreasonable.

most ai generated content is slop but plenty of stuff crafted by human hands is slop too. the way to separate good art from bad art is not by drawing hard lines about what is 'allowed' to count as art, or saying there is an irreplaceable quality to a work that it gets imbued with when created by an Ensouled Being. the way to separate good art from bad art is to earnestly engage with the things you see in the world around you to develop and refine your own tastes about what sort of things you find meaningful and valuable.

it's like such a bizarre simultaneous devaluing and sanctifying of art at the same time to me. like art is so important and special and species-defining and the people who make it possess some sort of unique spiritual quality that can not be artificially replicated. but also Art is somehow a fragile and narrow enough thing that it's at risk of being irreparably bastardized or eradicated because of a machine. i don't get it. i don't get it!

The thing is that it is trained on stolen data and the creators didn't consent to that. And people profit off of that.

if something stops counting as art or somehow threatens the very integrity of Art as a concept when it involves profiting off of other people's uncompensated labor or ideas, then i have some really bad news for you about a lot of stuff.

Jordan Nassar Al-Atlal (The Ruins), 2024 (Glass tile mosaic), at Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles.

via T Magazine:

“Oh, my heart, don’t ask where is the love; it was a monument of illusions, so it collapsed,” the Egyptian musician Umm Kulthum sings in her 1966 lovelorn anthem “Al-Atlal (The Ruins).” The lyrics, which were based on a poem by Ibrahim Nagi, now frame a mosaic work in Jordan Nassar’s exhibition “Surge,” opening on May 18 at Anat Ebgi gallery in Los Angeles. The 60 by 96-inch piece, titled after the song, is made up of glass tiles on foam board. In the middle, a grid of six square images show animals, including a swan and a dog, hovering above a nocturnal mountainous landscape or a mosque. The composition was inspired by a Byzantine floor mosaic discovered by a farmer in 2022 in the Gaza Strip. “There is a very high chance that the mosaic is now completely destroyed — it’d be a miracle if it’s still there,” Nassar says. –Osman Can Yerebakan

Please help my friends Marah and Mahmoud and their lovely family!

Hi all, i'm going to keep this very quick. As you may know, the bombing in gaza resumed yesterday, and many people have been martyred. Marah and her family narrowly avoided one of these bombings, according to her brother, who I am in regular contact with.

They are still very hungry on top of this. Please share and help if you can! Thank you!!

I am hosting this campaign btw!! ^0^

@mahrahpalestine @palestinian95 this campaign is vetted, please check marah's blog(s) out!

Messages between me and Ibrahim @wolf-aid on the 17th of april 2025, shared with his permission

Ibrahim is only fifteen years old, and this is the kind of things he has to deal with because of the occupation. He dreams of continuing his education, but this genocide has taken that from him. Ibrahim’s home, school, and the places he used to spend his time have been destroyed, and he has been displaced multiple times and lost many relatives in the bombings. No one should have to go through this, and especially not at his age.

On top of this, both of his parents suffer from health issues, which is scary enough for a child to experience even outside of a war zone where they can’t get adequate treatment.

Prices in Gaza are sky high for food, medications and other necessities, and evacuations are expensive too. If you can donate to Ibrahim’s campaign, you are helping this family survive until the border reopens, and making sure they can afford to leave when they have the chance.

Thanks to Ibrahim’s hard work campaigning for his family, they have reached almost 90% of their goal, but they still have a little under 10,000 to go. Please don’t ignore him and don’t let this campaign slow down when they are so close to reaching their goal 🙏🏼🇵🇸

€70,433 raised out of 80,000

Please guys share and donate too we are very close to our goal which is 88% now please Share and donate too

She is an incredible artist. Here is her KoFi. If you can afford to donate something or commission one of her knit projects, it would mean the entire world to me, her, and her fiance. Please consider helping a queer couple out of a really toxic and awful situation. If Kofi doesn't work for you, feel free to DM me about other ways to help out (venmo, zelle).

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and share ❤️

I am the main provider of two disabled loved ones/roommates, one who has cancer. We are behind on bills after an extended period of me missing work between one of them having surgeries and the other being hospitalized.

All three of us have very expensive appointments coming up. Our internet is set to be turned off soon, which is particularly bad because I work from home. The washer broke a while back. Things are bad.

I make art and have an art blog where I take requests and sell originals. You can find that here: @theartistrans Examples above. This is the GFM for my roommates cancer needs/chemo

We are, in total, about 1.5k from getting everything we need taken care of, not including her cancer fund, which?? We are not sure how much everything will cost, but the costs have added up to much more than we've received for that already. Dm for proof or more details, vetted by @kyra45-helping-others who does scam busting on here though too

PP--$C--V--kofi

Nothing received in a couple of days, our internet will be turned off tomorrow if we don't pay, and we still need about 1.5k just to catch up and not be screwed in a variety of ways.

Nothing received since the last update. Our wifi is likely to be off by the end of the day. That will mean I can't work.

Hossam Al-Qazzaz and his family were finally able to move into their newly rebuilt tent... And now, it looks likely they will be displaced yet again.

In the early hours of March 17/18, 2025, the ceasefire in Gaza collapsed. Airstrikes lit up the dark night, killing over 400 people.

Sleeping in their tent in the Khan Kunis displacement camp, the Al-Quzzaz family had a nightmarish awakening: their tent collapsing on top of them, their belongings catching fire from the blast.

Hossam, his wife Hanan, and their four children—Bashar (9), Hani (8), Diana (4), and 4-month-old Habiba—managed to scramble out of the wreckage.

Video: Clip from a ten minute Al-Jazeera video, featuring Hossam, as he recounts the night his family's tent was destroyed in an airstrike.

Original Video: [LINK]

"Miraculously, we survived," Hossam wrote to us the next morning, assuring us he and his family were unharmed. The tent, however, was completely destroyed.

“By the grace of the Creator, we were not physically harmed, but we are psychologically and morally broken,” Hossam wrote in the March 19th update on the family's GoFundMe page. “... our hearts are still trembling until now, because we have lost everything. Our tent was completely destroyed, just as our house was destroyed before, and we are now homeless, without food, without clothes, without money…”

The devastating blow was softened a little by the kindness of others; thanks to everyone who donated to the Chuffed campaign our founder, Bethany Grace, created to help the family rebuild, we were able to send the Al-Qazzaz family $788 (€697.48 after conversion)—enough to start constructing another shelter out of sturdy materials.

Hossam, skilled in construction, has been hard at work for the past few weeks, clearing out the debris and reconstructing the family's shelter with materials he was able to obtain.

Every day, Hossam toiled to rebuild his family's shelter. And every long night, the family could barely sleep as brutal airstrikes continued to light up the night.

“The sounds of bombings are everywhere,” Hossam wrote to us one evening. “And the planes fly at a close distance. And fires everywhere.”

A few days ago, the family was able to move back into their shelter together.

But today, Hossam sent us a message that made our blood run cold:

“The tanks are approaching and are almost a kilometer* or a little more away. If [they] come any closer, we'll get out of there because we'll be within range of [their] fire.”

*Kilometer = 0.62 miles

This precious family, already displaced multiple times for over a year, now might be displaced again, under threat of fire. With no stable income and essential supplies priced beyond reach, the Al-Qazzaz family is fighting a daily battle just to keep their children warm, fed, and safe.

The Al-Qazzaz family is one of countless in Gaza enduring wave after wave of trauma, displacement, and loss. And yet, through it all, they have held onto their dignity, their love for each other, and their will to survive. The support of the online mutual aid community has been a lifeline for them—allowing them to feed their children, find temporary shelter, and begin again each time everything is taken from them.

If you are moved by their story and wish to help, the family has a GoFundMe campaign that directly supports their daily essentials—food, medicine, and immediate needs. Every donation, no matter the size, helps them meet the most basic requirements to keep going in impossible circumstances.

Additionally, a Chuffed campaign, organized by the founder of Gaza Giving Tree, is helping to raise funds specifically to aid the family in either rebuilding yet again or evacuating to safety if that becomes possible. This effort is aimed at long-term stability and survival—a future where the children can sleep without fear.

Please consider contributing to one or both campaigns. Your generosity can be the reason this family has a chance at life beyond war and rubble.

Tagging for reach (DM to be removed)

The area they are asking to evacuate from is some distance away from us 500 meters away from us. Please, things are getting worse and it seems that our exit is imminent. Therefore, I hope to collect the required amount to move us to safe areas quickly, as things are moving quickly I have no one but you, so please donate to us.

🚨 We need to raise $263 to help the Al-Qazzaz family prepare for potential displacement. 🚨

Image: Hossam was able to tell us the exact amount the family needs to evacuate.

Hossam and Hanan Al-Qazzaz and their four children are currently living just 500 meters from an active evacuation zone. Tanks are closing in, and the situation is becoming more dangerous by the hour.

They have been in touch with multiple people to arrange transport, but the cost to evacuate the entire family—Hossam, Hanan, their children, and Hossam’s elderly parents—is 1,000 shekels (around $263 USD).

Time is of the essence. There is still a slim chance of a deal that might keep them in place safely, but if it falls through, they must evacuate immediately to avoid being caught in a deadly crossfire.

Raising the full amount of $265 as quickly as possible will give this family the peace of mind to act without hesitation the moment they need to move.

Please share and donate if you can—every dollar brings them one step closer to safety.

If your boyfriend tells you he’s looking into buying podcast equipment, and you do nothing to stop him, when I’m president and I sign an executive order to finally prosecute men with podcasts, you will be charged as an accessory to a crime. Just some food for thought

The people on this site who insist you have to lovingly craft your own cover letters every time don’t strike me as people who’ve had to apply to many jobs
