An Update on the Tumblr Android App

For those of you who access Tumblr through our Android app, we wanted to share that starting today you may see some differences for search queries and posts that may contain specific types of sensitive content. In order to comply with Google’s Play Store Guidelines, we have adjusted what you’re able to access as it relates to potentially sensitive content while using the Android app.Β

To remain available within Google's Play Store, we have added more measures and limit exposure to potentially sensitive content in order to comply with their guidelines and to provide a safer experience to you. To learn more about Google’s Play Store Guidelines, click here.Β

How you may experience these changes

When browsing Tumblr through Dashboard, Search, Communities and other surfaces you might experience less content and some searches might not produce any results unless you enable β€œshow mature content” in Tumblr settings. Please refer to our Help Center article to learn more.

Why these changes are being made

We want to make sure Tumblr is available everywhere you would like to access it. In order for us to remain in Google’s Play Store and for our Tumblr Android app to be available, we needed to make changes that would help us be more compliant with Google’s policies around sensitive content.Β

We understand that, for some of you, these changes may be very frustrating – we understand that frustration and we apologize for any disruption that these changes may cause.Β

Who this impacts

These changes will only impact those who are accessing Tumblr through the Android app. If you are using our iOS app, accessing Tumblr through mobile web or online through tumblr.com, your experience will remain unchanged.

hey if you’re a federal worker you may want to use a vpn and check to see if the β€œamerican accountability foundation” (elon) doxxed you. suggesting a vpn bc there’s an IP logger on the domain.

info includes black and white photos of targets, social media posts, and political donation history among other things. do not access the site from company devices or during work hours.

according to this NBC news article, β€œoffenses” include things as minor as having your pronouns in your bio.

🚨It would be a shame if everyone reported this website to their Registrar, GoDaddy, for violating their Inappropriate Content Guidelines 🚨

Report form or you can email abuse@godaddy.com

(Form makes your name/info optional)

Domains to report: "americanaccountabilityfoundation(.)com" and "dhswatchlist(.)com" (take out parenthesis)

Form will ask for a specific url with violating content. Easiest one I've found is at the second domain, you can grab an example from there. ("https://www.dhswatchlist(.)com/targets/kursten-phelps" if you want to copy mine, but lets get some diversity)

Example script of what I said for the DHS one: "This website hosts photos, employment information, and financial transactions with specific dates and amounts of individuals who did not consent. This is a violation of your inappropriate content guideline."

GoDaddy's definition of inappropriate content (we are going for "personal information"):

Reblogging again! This version has all the info for reporting it and the link

people who don’t wear glasses will never understand the absolute humiliation of dropping your glasses under your bed or in a dark area and feeling around on all fours muttering β€œmy glasses…. where are my glasses” like fucking Velma Dinkley and thinking to yourself BOY WOULD THIS BE A LOT EASIER IF I COUKD FUCKING SEE

I've noticed more and more in public bathrooms that people skip the handwash and just take a squirt of hand sanitizer from wall dispensers on the way out. hand sanitizer is NOT effective against most things that come out of your ass. i cannot stress this enough. i'm begging y'all. please. please please please please please use the soap.

i'm out here immunosupressed fighting for my life to not get naturally selected while people around me touch a public toilet handles and walk back to their tables to immediately eat a burger

Thank you for bringing this up! Many hand sanitizers and household cleaners proudly claim to "Kill 99.99% of germs."

In fact, this does not mean that the product kills 99.99% of all germs known to exist.

It means that, during product testing in a controlled environment, the product killed 99.99% of the germs it was specifically tested against. As you might imagine, Lysol isn't testing its kitchen disinfectant spray against millions and millions of unique microbes.

In the U.S., labeling laws require that companies actually identify somewhere else on the label which germs are being tested and killed. Next time you see a "kills 99.99% of germs" label, check out the rest of the label, and you'll find the small print which specifies that it kills 99.9% of one type of flu, or Covid, or E. Coli, etc. This is why many labels even include an asterisk, i.e.: "Kills 99.99% of Germs!*" Look for the companion asterisk elsewhere on the label for more info.

There are different kinds of germs, like Viruses; Bacteria, Fungi, and Protozoans.

The way we kill these germs to prevent infections varies based on the germs' structure. Essentially, we need different "weapons" (cleaning methods) to fight different microbes. A product that kills Flu Viruses and E. Coli can't necessarily destroy Norovirus or Giardia.

No product is effective against every type of germ, even common germs which regularly cause illness in households and communities.

Hand washing is effective against more germs, not only because it can destroy germs which hand sanitizer cannot, but it simply washes them off your hands.

i love how garnet and pearl are just continuing to use the name of their infamous guerilla military organization while their current jobs are fighting lv4 rpg monsters and giving each other basket weaving seminars. and steven has no context for this and just thinks of "The Crystal Gems" as basically the name for his mom's side of the family. so he walks up to lapis and says "you should hang out with me and my treehouse friends, the Viet Cong!"

Research has shown that pleasure affects nutrient absorption. In a 1970s study of Swedish and Thai women, it was found that when the Thai women were eating their own (preferred) cuisine, they absorbed about 50% more iron from the meal than they did from eating the unfamiliar Swedish food. And the same was true in the reverse for the Swedish women. When both groups were split internally and one group given a paste made from the exact same meal and the other was given the meal itself, those eating the paste absorbed 70% less iron than those eating the food in its normal state.

Pleasure affects our metabolic pathways; it’s a facet of the complex gut-brain connection. If you’re eating foods you don’t like because you think it’s healthy, it’s not actually doing your body much good (it’s also unsustainable, we’re pleasure-seeking creatures). Eat food you enjoy, it’s a win-win.

what

no seriously

what?

PLEASURE IS A NECESSARY PART OF HUMAN HEALTH, BOTH PSYCHOLOGICALLY AND PHYSICALLY

this is why you should be eating your chips with salsa and guac instead of beating yourself up for not eating a salad with tomato and avocado (unless you are a salad bitch like me then enjoy both of them!)

for those of you wondering if the studies cited above are legit and if so where we can read about them, here’s a link to one of the (more than a dozen!) papers written on the topic of nutrient absorption and how you eat your food:

hey look, additional info!

theres a phenomenon that happens on here i have been calling "normalize loving parents posting" which is when you spend a lot of time on tumblr and are exposed to a lot of one specific counter-cultural narrative day in and day out until you start to forget what the dominant ideas are for most of the human population and thus feel the need to "defend" things that are widely accepted and popular. it's called this because of the time a bunch of text posts about shitty dads were circulating and then people with good relationships with their dad didn't feel included enough and started making "uhmmm can we normalize loving parents? not everyone has a deadbeat dad, MY dad is great" type posts, seemingly forgetting that good relationship with dad is a cultural norm that is expected and encouraged. i think its good practice, especially when im annoyed, to stop before i hit the post button and ask myself if this is a real issue or if im normalize loving parents posting. because often im about to try to normalize loving parents

common examples of normalize loving parents posting:

  • support women who shave their legs and wear makeup every day
  • let's hear it for masculine men
  • reminder that two people of the same gender can have a close platonic relationship!! not everything is gay!!
  • skinny shaming is hurtful too guys
  • does anyone else think [ironic kink du jour] is strange and freaky and gross?

saluting our bravest warriors who aren't afraid to stand up and advocate for the status quo
