One tried and true way to diminish the power of a song, especially when it’s written by a woman, is to focus too finely on who it is “about.” And while Mitchell never tried to disguise the handful of famous ex-lovers and musicians who populate “Blue,” the context surrounding the album is merely a surface concern, distracting from the achievement of its song-craft and the oceanic force of its emotions. As James Taylor — romantically involved with Mitchell during parts of this album’s composition, and a guitarist on four “Blue” songs — told me over the phone, songs “sort of follow their own truth, which can be bent.”

Jack Antonoff reveals that ''Fresh Out The Slammer'' is his favorite song on TTPD via Twitter/X:

''into the fresh out the slammer thing that is my favorite on the album'' (April 5, 2025)

straight people are so fascinating even when they aren't actively trying to be homophobic. I had a class a few years ago where one assignment was to summarize some eighth century arabic poetry about going out for drinks with the lads before indulging in some gay sex and like half the class came in and said "I'm sorry idk what was happening in this one, they mention having sex with a servant but they also say the servant's a man? where'd the woman come from? I'm so confused." and a few days ago in a shakespeare class I made a comment about how cleopatra and octavius caesar are kind of parallel characters in possessively bartering for mark antony's attention and one of my classmates responded as though I'd been talking about octavia and not caesar, despite the fact that I said "caesar" and "him" multiple times while describing the actions he specifically took. fully incapable of comprehending of anything that's even a little bit gay.

This is why I get frustrated with a lot of the discourse around the idea that historians are trying to hide queer history. On the one hand, yeah, there are historians who can entertain nuance and there is an entire field of queer history, and it can be so anti-intellectual when people write the entire field off as "bad, so whatever I find on the internet is inherently better".

But on the other hand, I see this behavior so often! I hear it on podcasts, I read it in books! So many straight, allosexual people - including historians - just cannot fully wrap their heads around the idea of queerness and how it works.

A cyanometer is a device used to measure the intensity of blue in the sky, often used in meteorology and atmospheric studies. It typically consists of a series of blue color patches or a color gradient, allowing the user to compare the sky’s color to these reference colors.

Well I like that it doesn't take 5 minutes to scroll past.

taylor swift pattern theme?

So for evermore its clear taylor took a lot of inspo from emily dickinson famous lesbian poet for her evemore album. this inlcudes visuals and lyrics associated with the album. specifically the outfits, photoshoots and very specifically the song ivy and also evermore was released on emily dickinsons birthday.

And for the tortured poets department its a similar becuase its clear she has taken inspiration from mainly virginia woolf who had rumored lesbian relationships and also some inspiration from mary shelley who was rumored to be bisexual. its clear for certain songs they lyrically carry the vibe of virginia wolf. and for the fortnight mv its clear mary shelley was the inspiration.

now for a future album maybe ts12 as it has a more vibrant and lilac/ violet/ pinks, blush and gold toned aesthetic based on recent outfits and easter eggs. I would love for her to continue this theme of dedicating albums to famous queer female writers and poets!! for ts12 I would love to see it based around sappho. I would love for it to have a ethereal garden poet vibe with lots of floral imagrey and silkly flowy elements.

I just think this would be a nice way to continue this theme of using queer writers as inspiration for albums!! and would love to see a sappho inspired album.

( I couldn't pinpoint any clear queer writer inspirations for folklore or midnights so if you know of a queer writer or poet who is tied to those albums please let me know)!!

kinda hate when people ask "swifties, explain the taylor swift hype, why do you like her so much" because how am I meant to explain that when I was 12 years I listened to mine once and that song gripped me so tightly I ended up imprinting on her like a little baby ducking and 15 years later here I am

the more i hear people say that how bad do u want me IS a taylor song, the more it bothers me. it just feels like it's taking away from lady gaga's achievement and her artistry. jack and taylor did not invent synth pop. gaga wrote and produced a really great synth pop song. taylor and jack have also created a lot of brilliant synth pop songs. gaga plays with a ton of different styles and genres on mayhem. i don't hear anyone saying killah IS a bowie song or a janelle monae song etc. maybe this just comes from a love of taylor's music and an excitement at hearing sonic parallels, but the discourse is going a little too far imo and i wish hbduwm would be recognized as a great GAGA song. because it is.

Not to mention that masks & HEPA filters actually fucking help while most security in airports is just theater.

Two replies from Cathy Kimport @/purpleninjagrrl: "Ever think about how 22 years later we still can't bring 4 ounces of sunscreen and a nailclipper onto a plane, and yet 3 years into an ongoing pandemic we're able to walk around a cancer treatment center maskless? I sure do.

I don't demand a perfect world I just want a world that can install hepa filters in schools and hospitals with the same ecpediency that we installed enhanced security screening facilities in every international airport in the world." /end ID
