REMINDER: IM NOT AN EXPERT IN ENTOMOLOGY, IM A HOLLOW KNIGHT FAN (the lines between them are very similar) i make stuff sometimes. if u like it feel free to do stuff i guess. follow for +10 antisocial. strictly non-political. pronouns are preferably They/Them Rookie mothologist and Games Designer.

Begun work on an actual game design project I plan to finish: Introducing The Quirrel Project! - Name is a WIP for now

This game will centre around Quirrel and his exploration of the Desolate Wastes.

Trailer coming when a few areas in the game are done at minimum, which may take a while.

Expect most future posts - aside from Moth Facts ofc - to be focusing on this project! I will also replace my pinned post with this project.

MOTH BLAST

Ooh the Deaths Head Hawkmoth!

These little guys are nocturnal and are often attracted to light sources.

In nature they will eat honey - mainly by stealing from bees.

They're typically seen between August and October

However the ones in this image are likely provided for by their owner so dont need to steal from bees for food.

While some moths are fluffy, these guys have a much thinner fur. They emit a squeak when they are alarmed most of the time.

They also have much thinner antennae than other moths (for example, Emperor Moths have much thicker antennae)

Tumblr might shut down

alr, I'm gonna spread some awareness about it!

so, have you heard about Tumblr getting shut down? I just did! from my own quick research all I can really say is that Tumblr is cutting stuff, and it can turn out with Tumblr getting shut down. it gets Tumblr users worried, so, please, do your own research and spread awarness about this situation!

here are some links for the posts, that spoke about this not so long ago:

some tags to spread awarness:

1 sec i'll back up my blog. just in case. all my important crap like the quirrel project and cipheriad and my moth facts are already saved but better safe than sorry

Moth facts will continue. Nothing can stop my relentless information on moths.

forever dismayed that my canine teeth aren't sharp enough to puncture objects. like that's what they're for. why don't you work

the issue is that you havent been sharpening em by biting your prey as it tries to run away, which was what ancient humans wouldve done before they discovered that they could just powerwalk at their enemies until they gave up.

now that im done with THE SCIENCE, onto entomology.

Moth Fact:

One of the few moths known for eating non-plant organisms (aside from moth larvae, which will eat silk from their parent moth, and moths that eat other moths young like the Ornate Moth) is the Common Clothes Moth, which eat clothes. Clothes can be made of animal fibres. Therefore these moths are non-vegetarian.

these moths are omnivores.

true, some clothes arent plant based

are** why doesnt tumblr let u edit reblogs

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has multiple movies in their head that scared them to death as a kid.

But- *shivers*

I remember watching clips from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids on Disney Channel when I was a kid.

And that movie was horrifying to my little brain. Everything was so serious and terrifying. Like wtf were they thinking about putting kids below a goddamn lawnmower. Or having kids almost drown in a puddle of water. Those memories still scare me to this day. And I’ve refused to watch the movie because of that.

Maybe someday I’ll actually watch the full thing, but I need to voice my feelings because I cannot be the only one terrified by that movie.

Ghost could solo a lawnmower no diff.

people are beginning to actively seek out my vast knowledge of moths.

luckily i have a doctorate in mothematics.

I keep forgetting red + green = yellow and getting confused when scrolling through my notifications and seeing yellow

Orchard Ermine Moths are found across Europe and usually fly between July and August. They are attracted to light, though that is not an uncommon trait in moths. They were first discovered in 1972 Northern Ireland.

They also have no relation with the post above, I just wanted to say a fact about a moth.

technically there is a CHANCE one will be flying when Silksong and Deltarune release soooooo

I was expecting a yellow moth or something but this is almost better

There are many yellow moths, theyre quite common. The Io moth is a good example for over in the States, btu watch out cuz their caterpillars have slightly venomous spikes on them!

caterpillar for reference

GUYS GUYS GUYS LOOK WHAT I FOUND ON THE SIDEWALK AT MY COLLEGE

@axolotldoezstuff hey. Hey. Over here. Lil guy

hola.

It looks most similar to the Convolvulus Hawkmoth. It flies from June to December but most commonly seen from late August to late November most of the time.

You likely found this guy during it's hibernation where they tend to have their larvae.

OH MY GOD THANKS!!!

just some bonus to add to those tags

uhhhh well uh.

Those round things look sus to me

they dont seem very fluffy just sayin. but yeah those are it's eggs. or its a parasite.

either way its best to just give the hawkmoth space and, if you want, food, until their usual flight times around july to december
