"there's no girls on the internet" is maybe my least favourite phrase like more phrases have caused more harm but never has a phrase that is so comedically evil been said so casually and been so omnipresent

Like I hope no one who follows me is unfortunately in a place that still says this, it's very much a pre-2020s phrase but saying "there's no girls on the internet" simultaneously misgenders and disrespects all the trans women who've contributed to the modern internet but also is a self-admittance that not only have you created a space so hostile to women that you can't even imagine the concept of a woman wanting to engage with it, that it is bad to a point of delusion when a woman does decide to wade through all the misogyny that surrounds your swamp of a community you insist she's faking

i know this sounds incredibly obvious but. people really like it when you respect their genders???? like yeah cis people gender affirming care BUT in my experience your average trans genderqueer person is going to have a nuance to their gender that rarely gets seen or respected, a label that seems contradictory, a xenogender like "cat" or "doll", a neopronoun, so on. and if you pay attention to and respect these and mention them people notice and they appreciate it. the queer community is full of people who are so rarely seen the way they want to be seen, and if you take just a little effort you can perform acts of incredible love and kindness.

I think people would armchair diagnose bad people with cluster B disorders much less if psychiatric disorders hadn't all been given names by ableists who of course picked the traits most unberarable to "sane" people to name them rather than, you know, the ways it affects the people that have them. It's like, when doctors are all "this disorder gives you extremely low self esteem. and it's called the Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder" or "this disorder makes you want to die so bad. and it's called the Hysteric Bitch Disorder" or "this disorder disconnects you from your peers. and it's called the Insane Evil Cunt Disorder" and so on and so forth, so of course you have people going "oh, this person is a selfish fucking asshole, they MUST have Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder! this further proves that all people with this disorder are like that in the first place!" I know that realistically you can only fit so many movies into a list of approximately 100, but I cannot take that "How many of tumblr's favorite movies have you seen?" list that's been going around seriously because there are some truly egregious omissions.

Some of it is very clearly recency bias, which makes me wonder if the op truly wasn't on here in 2013 or so, but you're telling me you made a list of "tumblr's favorite movies" that doesn't include Pacific Rim or Mad Max: Fury Road? Because, like, I was there, Gandalf.

I'm a ridiculous human and genuinely couldn't sleep until I tried my hand at a better, more balanced list -- though of course, I have my own biases when it comes to what corners of this website I've lurked in over the years. For what it's worth, I did consult the last several Years In Review, while also drawing on the fact that I've been here for over a decade. But if there's anything that truly doesn't feel like it should have made the cut, blame my mutuals for putting it on my dash all the time.

Having a really long-term hyperfixation that has since faded is terrifying yes but it's also so embarrassing. Hi I used to think about Scrimblo Splungus 25/7. Yeah, for 2 years straight. Nah, I don't think about them anymore except for with a vague sense of melancholy as I recall how they used to make me feel. Anyways this new one, Blimpkins McGee?
