nothing funnier to me than when AI does math wrong. like I get why it happens, it's a language model that's treating the numbers you feed it as words rather than integers and then giving you an answer based on how those words typically appear in a block of text instead of actually performing a calculation. but the one thing computers are genuinely incredible at. you fucked up a perfectly good calculator is what you did, look at it it's got hallucinations
Worldbuilding is fun, and you definitely need to think at least a little about how a setting Works for it to make any sense, but I sometimes get the impression that people on this website have forgotten the extent to which you can just kind of wing it.
You should probably have an explanation for why there are potatoes in your quasi-European setting, but you don't necessarily have to develop a five hundred year overview of the history of Fantasy Peru unless the story is actually set there. It's probably sufficient to say "imperial conquest that is a broad allegory for real world events" or "this world is filled with traveling bands of botanists" or "the world was a single supercontinent within living memory, and then some crazy shit happened, let me tell you about That" depending on the themes and ideas you are working with.
There just are.
JRR Tolkien/Jules Vernes worldbuilding vs. CS Lewis/HG Wells worldbuilding.
I'm not sure why if something is set in a fantasy world, there needs to be an explanation for why its foodways are different from the actual planet Earth in the early part of the second millennium CE. It's a different world, presumably a different planet or dimension, of course it isn't exactly the same, just like how the real historical Middle Ages didn't have dragons or elves. I don't see why you need to explain the flora if not the fauna, unless you're making some kind of point with your story where it's relevant, or you just want to have fun with seeing what you can do with food when you eliminate New World species.
more eloquent people than me have gone into this in more detail, but:
the issue is less "foodways that are different from the actual planet Earth" and more "there are a lot of mediocre fantasy stories that go for a Generically Pseudo-Medieval setting modeled on the author's vague understanding of historical Europe, which carries certain unpleasant implications when that setting also contains the spoils of colonialism as if they've always been there."
this is the sort of problem that worldbuilding can solve, because having a broad idea of the relationship between Region A and Region B in your head is genuinely useful for making the world feel lived-in, imo. you just don't have to determine the full economic structure of Countries 1-31 in Region A and Countries 32-106 in Region B to sell it, which is what I'm driving at.
(And I don't find "it's a different world" an especially convincing argument. If you fall back on that, you're just raising the question of why they have potatoes at all - the answer, of course, being that It's A Story Written By An Earth Human, Drawing On Their Understanding of History, Biology, &c.)
whats the difference between outlaws and inlaws
outlaws are wanted
come on reblog this my grandma told me this joke and was convinced she was going to be famous on tumblr for it

Hell yeah!!!
the funniest part about metroid is that ridley is a completely sentient/human level intelligence but he just acts like that cause he's a hater and an asshole
Not to venerate the halcyon and bygone days of yore, but it used to be that declaring that girls are too fragile and delicate to ever possibly compete with the boys or ever be as good as them at anything was rightly denounced as the kind of raging sexisim that made you sound like the flatly written villain of a teenybopper movie.
"male loneliness epidemic" is misleading because it implies that men are suffering because they can't get girls when I feel like the actual problem is that pretty much any online content that's aimed specifically at men conceptualizes the masculine ideal as what I call the Buff Scammer. there are only two things in this world that matter, says the Buff Scammer: being jacked and making money. how you get to either of those things doesn't matter, you just need to be as rich and as buff as possible or you have failed as a man. Get into drop shipping. Eat nothing but raw meat. Rugpull a memecoin. Remove seasonings from your diet. Sell an online course. Go to the gym daily. Starve yourself so your body will achieve ketosis and start burning fat. Attend a seminar on real estate investing. Work 80 hours a week. Take steroids but don't let anyone know about that part. Flip a YouTube channel after 10xing the subs. Sell AI art on Etsy and AI audiobooks on Amazon. What's that? You're trying to do this to get girls? Why would you care about women? Women are all stupid whores who don't help you get richer or buffer. The only people you should be paying attention to are other rich, buff men. If you do hang out with women you should be pimping them out on Chaturbate so you can at least get an ROI off your time spent not thinking about men. Male friends? You don't have time for friends. You should be hustling and grinding 24/7 365. And if you absolutely do need to spend time around other men you should only be spending time with other buff scammers so you can collaborate on entrepreneurial ventures. Like Jesus Christ even writing this is exhausting I feel like trying to be this dude would be fucking miserable like not only did you turn yourself into a friendless, materialist, misogynistic asshole who can only conceptualize the world in terms of value extracted but you're NOT EVEN HAVING FUN DOING IT!!!!!!
At some point in my transition, the "hate yourself, get an eating disorder, buy product" messaging I get switched from woman flavor to man flavor, and omfg. What the hell is this shit!
The "woman" version would often disguise itself as self care. There's this facade of softness and gentleness. ("indulge yourself: buy skincare! do what's right for YOU: starve yourself and smile emptily at zucchini noodles! this is empowering. your body is a temple, divine feminine chakra mother!!!") In the man version, no such thing. Self compassion is not allowed. You've got to brutally grind yourself into the shape of a Real Man or die trying, but you don't get to *enjoy* being the Real Man because comfort is for girrrrrrlllssss.
My dangerous trans gender ideology is that being a man should be enjoyable. If there's nothing fun about it, change your approach or stop being a man.
It bothers me that most sensory homunculus models used in teaching/demos/etc has artificially small genitals. Like the point of a model is to be accurate. Genitals are obviously highly innervated tissue and should be represented as such
Sorry but the one on the left is strongly implying the that the hands are more sensitive than the genitals. These are supposed to be accurate models with larger size indicating more highly innervated tissue. Seeing one of these with a giant phallus would be way less weird to me than seeing that whoever is making them lacks the maturity to represent genitals accurately so has made the phallus smaller for 'propriety'.
The representation of the genitals should be at least half the size of a hand, realistically a bit bigger. Idk. It's strange to me that the people making these won't just make accurate ones. God forbid someone see a representation of a phallus.
& make one with a clitoris that size too
like they are obviously essentially the same structure, but allowing for a representation of a clitoral shaft paired with a figure that did not have testicles, or had enlarged breasts, for example, would be helpful to visualize the significant number of nerve endings humans have on that body part regardless of how we're sexed/gendered.
the fear of perceiving a representation of a woman's body with external genitals, despite all women having external genitals in different sizes and configurations (unless having experienced cliterectomy due to intersexist or misogynist medical abuse--which tbh comes from a similar place as the lack of representation in these models, namely the desire to erase knowledge/acknowledgement of this body part on women) is so notable to me
Yes! And your tags make an excellent point, nipples are also notably absent or small in most of these. Like, we're being shown a representation of our body with size being mapped to nerve density, and our erogenous zones are tiny. What gives?
"there's no girls on the internet" is maybe my least favourite phrase like more phrases have caused more harm but never has a phrase that is so comedically evil been said so casually and been so omnipresent
Like I hope no one who follows me is unfortunately in a place that still says this, it's very much a pre-2020s phrase but saying "there's no girls on the internet" simultaneously misgenders and disrespects all the trans women who've contributed to the modern internet but also is a self-admittance that not only have you created a space so hostile to women that you can't even imagine the concept of a woman wanting to engage with it, that it is bad to a point of delusion when a woman does decide to wade through all the misogyny that surrounds your swamp of a community you insist she's faking
In this fucked up economy you can't even pay for pizza with sex anymore. They're all like, "Man I've got rent to pay" and "Look I'm flattered but I have to pay out of pocket for this and I'm already behind on my student loans."
You ask a plumber if he'll inspect your plumbing and show you how he polishes his pipe and he doesn't even whip it out anymore, he starts talking to you about labor shortages and the union's increasingly tense contract disputes. It's terrible
Part of what Cory Booker is doing with this filibuster is reading things into the record. Sometimes when people do a filibuster, they just say shit. I think one time Ted Cruz read "Green Eggs and Ham" into the record. Another dude sang the Mets theme song or whatever the shit.
If you actually have substantial things to say, you don't have to do that. I mean, not for nothing, but what we're watching here is a man doing the job he was elected to do. Our public officials work for us, the people. It's nice to see some of them take that obligation seriously.
Booker is standing there with a binder that he's not even halfway through reading. *Over 42k people are watching it just on YouTube. I haven't watched the news yet today, but I've got the live feed of this open on my computer.
I hope he has a catheter and/or a diaper on. He said he'd continue as long as he's physically able. Probably he's been on a liquid diet for a day or so. I would plan ahead for this.
If Republicans are going to refuse to do the work, if they're going to refuse to take up serious business and would like instead to fuck shit up... Well, we've got a choice to make, don't we? I don't know what the long-term solution looks like. But we can and should talk about it. We can and should take steps to make sure the public record reflects reality to the extent possible.
Really, if we want to come back from this, we have to talk about it. And we know that the official records during this time especially will be, shall we say, less than reliable. So there is value in speaking the truth into the public record.
I'm not in love with the Democratic party as an institution. But this can also be energizing and inspiring for people. He's setting an example, and hopefully his example will shame others into growing a backbone. Hopefully.
I really don't have any hope for Schumer. But Booker, along with folks like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, and Jasmine Crockett, are doing what they can do, and I respect it.
This is definitely a coordinated thing, though. Finally, Dems are showing that they have some strategic ability. Booker is the main speaker, but other Dems are asking questions, while allowing him to retain the floor. In this way, it's clear that they're working together, and several people in the room have jobs to do in support of Booker's efforts. They're expanding on his points and doing a call-and-response thing, which is an effective tactic in more ways than one, and it allows him to rest his voice for a few moments at a time.
So I'm not becoming a cheerleader for anybody yet. But what he's doing is important, even if it doesn't change anything directly.
Miss me with bipartisanship talk though. I really can't see that as a viable option at this point. Unless something radical changes, I wouldn't trust that at all. So anytime somebody like Schumer talks about Republicans coming to the table, I can't be bothered to listen. They have repeatedly shown us that they have no intention of doing that and that they further do not care about right and wrong at all. Or if they do, they think their actions are right, and I'm not sure which is worse, but in both cases, I would not call them trustworthy. Their priority is being in lockstep with Trump and the prescribed agenda of the party, not the American people.
At least Booker is trying to do something. Shit.

My problem with all those memes hating on electroswing is that many of them implicitly identify "contaminating" swing with EDM influences as the genre's central problem, when the real problem is that most self-labelled electroswing artists clearly know fuck all about swing.
Like, there's no intrinsic problem with the idea of swing-style EDM. That's a perfectly cromulent notion. The trouble is that in order to properly make it, you first have to actually know what swing is.
I am very passionate about how Portal is a very feminist game. I see a lot of people say that Portal is progressive because it could’ve had a protagonist of interchangeable gender, and that Chell being a woman affects nothing. But it completely does! Chell being a woman is inherent to the plot and theming of the narrative! Portal is progressive because it depicts corporate exploitation of women and actively shows a woman perservering and overcoming that abuse!!!
The misogyny Chell puts up with is ungodly. It’s GLaDOS’s insults about your appearance and clothes, Wheatley’s constant condescending and assumption you’re incompetent, the way Cave Johnson talks about Caroline and takes away her agency, Wheatley’s adoption of GLaDOS’s insults towards Chell once he’s in power, all of “The Itch” section, it’s even embedded in the company culture of Aperture :
The implications of this poster given that Wheatley is currently in charge at this point in the game drive me insane
"If I die before you people can pour me into a computer, I want Caroline to run this place." "Now she'll argue. She'll say she can't. She's modest like that. But you make her."
It's really chilling how the entire series was kickstarted by this one misogynistic and ego-driven man. Even though Wheatley is technically the main villain, I think Johnson serves as a pretty compelling thematic antagonist.
And they don't even pay her!
this is perfect
i'd make a joke about "let the HUSBAND giggle under the covers and tell HIS WIFE to put that camera away before dying before HIS WIFE'S story starts" but lets be real he'd still get more fanart
sir do you understand that you are being criticized right now
The best thing about tumblr is you can just make a criticism of a very specific person completely unprompted and then that person will appear as if summoned in your notes to prove your point for you.

The term "survival horror game" is interesting to me because of the implications of breaking it down. The term "survival horror" outside of a gaming context sounds strange, but I guess a "survival horror movie" or a "survival horror novel" could still exist. However, the implication of a "non-survival horror game" also interests me. A horror game where surviving is not the goal. Finally, there's the notion of a "survival game" detached from a horror context. Is Super Mario Bros a survival game? Is Soup Calibur IV a survival game? Is Metal Gear Solid a survival game? Of course, there are games where you cannot truly survive, like Tetris, but the term seems so open ended that it makes me wonder how "survival horror game" became the term to begin with and not just "horror game". Do you have any thoughts?
you have a beautiful voice
