Sure, attachment issues suck, but there’s something so damaging about commitment issues. That growing terror of watching yourself fall in love and feeling them fall in love too. That innocent moment that’s more of a death sentence waiting to carried out into the air. That innocent moment when the other person looks over at you mid- laugh and you watch their smile soften just a little more than usual, and then it hits you. Oh no.

and then you spend the next month with two alternatives: you either force yourself to try and confront your fears, you beg yourself, please, just this once, let me not end my own love song, let me be happy and in love without any fear just this once. Or you’re sitting on the bathroom floor with a knife tucked up your sleeve where your heart should be, but instead, you crush it in the palm of your own hand. You try to reason with yourself. ‘Better this, than watch them walk away with it. You’re not in love. People like you are too cruel to love and be loved.’ Whatever route you take, the ending always stays the same. With them, blinking back tears, hurt and played with. And you, bleeding out in your feelings, telling yourself it’s for the better. Drowning in your own self-loathing, in your own filth, as you deserve to.
