Biz's 'Ships

@bizships / bizships.tumblr.com

These are the 'Ships I ship at any given time. My ships that won't ever change are: John/Aeryn, Picard/Crusher, Grissom/Catherine and Janeway/Chakotay. Other ships may come and go, but those are my constants.

Janeway has a VERY RETRO old school megaphone style Vinyl LP player… which makes me wonder if she’s a huge audiophile? We never really see indicators on the show, but I would love to explore this more in fic lol.

I'm sure she is, and I have a headcanon that she's a huge Beatles fan.

I think it belonged to Henry Janeway and had been passed down generation to generation over the years.

It’s called a Gramophone and doesn’t actually play vinyl records. They didn’t exist when it did. The records it played were shellac and were called phonographs. They ran at 78rpms. Think early early 1900’s. Like 1920’s and so forth. Vinyl came about in the 1940’s, when record players started looking more like what we’re used to.

Random music history lesson. 😊

I headcanon that the grandfather clock she has belonged to her father.

Remember that time Janeway got called to the bridge, but the combadge that received the call was being worn by Chakotay? And in the next scene, he's not wearing one?

Pray tell, what sort of situation would lead to these two getting dressed in such close physical proximity that they were able to accidentally switch combadges?

It took me forever to notice these details in this scene, lol But when I did, I was like wooooow! I couldn't come up with any other explanation for this scene other than "they did it, Your Honor!" Could it have been a hug? Oh, I don't think so. Hugs don't usually rip badges off people's clothes 😏 Could it have been an animation error? I doubt it. Usually in animations everything is intentional, but I could even believe that it was a mistake for Chakotay to briefly appear without his badge, if it had been at another time, and if before that his badge hadn't called the Admiral. Could it have been a communication error? Oh, please! 😂 So, no, there is no other type of situation that would lead two people to accidentally exchange their badges. And tell me: why did the producers choose to include this in the scene? To me, this scene and the compact mirror prove that they are canon. Would we like a kiss? Yes. But I think we lacked the courage to do so and we cannot forget that this is a children's program.

I think that wierd camera angle moment in her ready room was pulling away from a kiss.

It is a children’s program aimed at kids who still think adults kissing is gross. That’s why it was done subtly. So we adults get it, but it goes over the kids heads.

There is no other reason for them to have swapped combadges other than the badges sitting in the same nightstand table. In the same bedroom. That they are sleeping in. Together.

You know that Janeway didn't refuse to have a relationship with Chakotay just because of protocol, right?

I'm sure she didn't. It's not like they were going to behave like two teenagers sneaking through Jefferies tubes. They were mature and the way they acted perfectly as a command couple proved it: their feelings for each other never got in the way of their duties. And she would suffer the same if something happened to them, whether they were together or not.

Janeway didn't want to have a relationship with Chakotay because she wanted to punish herself, after all, she thought it wouldn't be fair to have a happy relationship when most of the crew didn't have the same luck because of a decision SHE made. Another reason is that she was afraid of settling into the happiness of being with Chakotay and not finding a way to get back to the Alpha Quadrant. And also because she was afraid of making Chakotay suffer.

Our poor girl is motivated more by suffering and self-punishment than anything else.

In the end, the protocols were a stronger safety net than Mark.

Mostly that yes. But also, because she knew the deep depression she went into after her father (and first fiance) died and she feared it. Mark was safe. He wasn’t a Starfleet officer. He wasn’t going to get killed in a war. Or on a starship. He was a philosopher. He didn’t lead a dangerous life. Loving him meant she was also safe to let her feelings breathe free.

But then she met Chakotay. Who almost immediately set off alarm bells because she knew the moment she met him that she was going to fall in love with him. And he was decidedly not safe. He was everything Justin was and everything Mark was. A soldier and a philosopher. But he was also a scientist. And loving him terrified her because, 1) she couldn’t be happy when (she perceived) others weren’t. 2) she had to get that ship home. She was very afraid that if something happened to Chakotay, (because she was deeper in love with him than anyone she’d ever been with) she was afraid that depression would cripple her even more. She couldn’t love him because of the guilt, but also the fear of losing herself if she lost him.

Which is absolutely ironic for a woman who literally looked Fear in the eye and said get fucked.

She’s fearless when it comes to everything else, but her own life. And that’s why she’s hiding behind protocol.

I liked him much better in Prodigy. He was just trying to do his job. Unfortunately he didn’t have Chakotay telling him how to handle a wild Kathryn Janeway. 😘

I like Jellico as a grownup rewatching TNG. (I manage a large team of scientists. I absolutely get where he's coming from.) And I LOVE Jellico on Prodigy. He threads that needle so perfectly of trying to enforce Starfleet policy, while also being fully aware that he can't actually make Kathryn Janeway listen to a damn word he says.

Exactly…

Favorite Captains Tournament: Week Eight!!!

He is a legend, arguably the epitome of a Starfleet officer, and the captain of many childhoods including mine, but now we must say goodbye to Capt Jean Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-D.

Wow we are getting close!! Only one more week until the finale!! I think we know who we will be losing this week, but hey I love surprises!!

This week's one-word photo prompt: cooking

Chakotay wanted to try cooking a meal on this planet of giants. He gathered all the necessary tools and carefully selected seasonings. Kathryn appreciated him doing the work, as she was certain the only appliance she should risk using in this sizable kitchen was the toaster.

I would be concerned with her even using a toaster. lol

Right. Janeway's retirement at the end of Prodigy confused me. It seemed like a rushed ending, something that was summarized and left a lot of gaps. Some people think that the fact that she simply retired means that she and Chakotay weren't together. And then there's the fact that he showed up there instead of calling her… But even if I think so, that part leaves some confusing gaps. I believe that she retired because she was simply tired! She spent years in the Delta Quadrant, after that we don't know exactly what happened until Chakotay disappeared with the Protostar, but she must have continued working hard, and then embarked on a tireless search for him. She was exhausted. And I believe he even liked her having retired, after all, it would be better for her to be in Indiana planting her garden than trying to kill herself out there lol But… Let's get to the fact that Chakotay simply showed up at the farm instead of calling…

Well, I don't know about you, but here at home people only show up out of the blue if they're very close to me. The fact that Chakotay showed up simply proves that they were both okay with the situation. Of course he could have called, I doubt she was unreachable, even someone from Starfleet could have called. But they asked Chakotay to go precisely because they knew she wouldn't deny it. And the fact that she said she wasn't expecting him there may have raised some hypotheses like "ok, they're not together", but maybe Chakotay had other things to do at Starfleet and she probably knew, after all, no one expected the attack on Mars and she had arrived at the farm, I think, not long ago.

To be honest, I didn't really like this ending, because it doesn't make much sense for JC, after everything we saw there was no plausible conclusion, even if they were just friends, which is also hard to swallow after everything we saw. I hope we get a third season to clear up these loose ends. And I hope that even if there is the option of not treating JC openly as a couple, it doesn't create inconsistencies in their relationship.

Good News! We are finally getting a true ending to Voyager. They are making comics books that tell the story from when Voyager get back to earth.

👀

It remains to be seen whether this is actually good news 😅 First, we need to see if this will be canon. Second, if it will have a good development, which I sincerely doubt, after what we saw in Endgame…

Comics are not canon. They’ve never even been considered beta canon. So I’m not expecting anything to be honest. I just hope they stop kicking the dead horse that is… well everything in Endgame.

Might be a good story. But it won’t be canon.

To be fair, people in relationships don’t always hold hands and cuddle and kiss and all that stuff constantly. Oftentimes they have actual regular conversations. Just standing next to each other.

She wasn’t expecting him. Well, last she knew he was in space on Voyager. Likely all ships were recalled back home, but if she didn’t know about Mars, that means she’s not watching any news. So she likely didn’t know Voyager had been diverted back home. Probably last she’d spoken to him, he was still in space. (Likely a day or two prior)

Starfleet sent Chakotay to tell her because they knew she wouldn’t kill that messenger. And he was likely going to Indiana anyway.

We also don’t know what happened after that scene. It’s very likely they both went into the house and spent the rest of the evening together. In all likelihood, the scene at HQ was the next day. It would take time for that many captains/Admirals to gather.

So while yes, the last scene seems impersonal, its basically because he was there on business and for them, business has always come before personal. She starts personal, “Didn’t expect you.” But then… she reads his face (as they’ve always done) and realizes he’s not there for a good reason, and flips to business. “What’s happened.”

So it really does make sense that that scene isn’t lovey dovey personal. That’s not them when business is involved.

This scene… they’re not even bothering to hide their relationship by this time.

The handhold that doesn’t end until she walks away. His comment about cleaning the carpets, small talk to keep her there just a few moments longer. The way they hold each other’s eyes until they can’t anymore. His worry-filled sigh and clear internal panic.

They are terrified they’re never going to see each other again.

Imagine that Tom and B’Elanna are going through something very similar.

Chakotay preparing to stop his wife from killing herself.

Season 7 they’re definitely arguing and compromising like a couple who’s been married for years.

I wonder if this reaction from holoJaneway was from the personality itself (the hologram) or from the real Janeway.

I think it’s from the hologram herself. After all they spent a lot of time together. No doubt she evolved. That’s why her program was too big for the standard chip.

"Are you the type to hold a grudge, Captain?" No.

Chakotay later Googles: "What to do if your wife is mad at you? How to make up?"

Honestly, they did it perfectly at the end of the episode.

JANEWAY: How's the crew?

CHAKOTAY: A lot of frayed nerves. Neelix is organising a potluck to help boost morale.

JANEWAY: Will I see you there?

CHAKOTAY: I'm replicating the salad.

JANEWAY: I'll bring the croutons. Chakotay. You know, you may have had good reason to stage a little mutiny of your own.

CHAKOTAY: The thought had occurred to me, but that would have been crossing the line.

JANEWAY: Will you look at that?

(Voyager's dedication plaque is on the deck.)

JANEWAY: All these years, all these battles. This thing's never fallen down before.

CHAKOTAY: Let's put it back up where it belongs.

That ^^ is how a healthy married couple begins to heal their marriage after a very bad fight. It was perfect.

I’m replicating the salad

I’ll bring the croutons.

People grumble at this exchange, but she’s actually telling him that she’s ready to work things out.

The dedication plaque moment?

“After all these years and all the battles this thing has never fallen down before.

Let’s put it back up together.

In all the years they’ve been together, they’d never had a falling out that bad before, and he’s telling her that they’re still together. They can fix their issue together.

That last scene is incredible and it’s very important and shows just how resilient that their relationship is.

Yes. And if they could, they would have made peace with sex. And of course everything was fine, in the next episode he was already releasing her hair from the plant 🤣

Honestly, I don’t think so. I think just being together on Voyager brings them peace.

Now the plant moment is a while different story.. heh. LOL (i love that scene)
